Chief Deputy Job Description
The Chief Deputy is the primary advisor to the Jailer regarding Policy and Procedure and financial affairs and acts in the Jailer’s stead in his absence. Duties of the Chief Deputy include but are not limited to:
1. Develop / Review / Amend Policy and Procedure as necessary.
2. Develop and oversee Classification for inmates.
3. Oversee Operations and inmate population.
4. Liaison to District, Circuit Courts.
5. Interface directly with Judges, Prosecutors and Officers of Local Courts regarding inmates.
6. Attend Fiscal Court meetings at request of Jailer.
7. Liaison with Judge-Executive, Fiscal Court Members, Finance Officer and Treasurer relating to jail issues and overall county budget issues that could affect the jail.
8. Liaison with other agencies including law enforcement and other detention centers as it relates to inmate affairs or investigations.
9. Prepare and submit all forms for Federal reporting guidelines.
10. Randomly monitor activities in the jail via direct supervision or video observation to maintain consistent behavior of officers regarding Policy and Procedure.
11. Oversee Programs.
12. Develop and plan short term and long-term action plans for fleet management, facility maintenance, and policy.
13. Advise Jailer on new technology and processes as they are made available. Acquire knowledge of same via internet, conferences or actual visits to suppliers or other facilities.
14. Directly oversee Booking Officer
15. Perform periodic evaluations for all Captains, Booking Officer and subordinate staff.
16. Interface with inmates regarding timesheets, classification decisions, etc.
17. Hire, terminate or discipline employees as needed.
18. Coordinate with state DOC with regards to inmate movements and policies.
19. Administrate all online services including Court-net, VINE, Cadmus Scribe, e-warrants, etc.
20. Investigating all incidents and reports involving inmates including speaking with the inmates involved in the incidents, reviewing all video recordings and phone recordings of the incidents, typing and sending Extraordinary Occurrence Reports to the Jail Inspector.
21. Act as the Jailer’s designee in his absence. Make sure the Staff is conducting themselves in an orderly fashion along with making sure the facility is operating properly.
22. Investigating all internal incidents and reports involving Deputy Jailers, speaking with the Deputy Jailers in reference to the internal incidents, reviewing all video recordings and phone recordings of the internal incidents along with conducting staff write ups.
23. Investigating grievance issues written by Inmates along with making copies for the Office Manager and also scanning copies of the grievances into the Inmates Cadmus Scribe files.
24. Certifying Deputy Jailers in the Use of Firearms, O.C. (Oleoresin Capsicum), Less Lethal Munitions and the TASER.
25. Entering in all training information conducted here at the Todd County Detention Center in to Crim- cast for training records.
26. Ensure that the Captains are maintaining their job requirements.
27. Assist with maintaining the safety and security of the facility.
28. Assist with answering incoming phone calls pertaining to inmates or facility information
29. Assists with covering positions in the Jail, to include all Deputy Jailer responsibilities.
30. Assists with interviewing applicants for job positions here at the facility.
31. Assist Detectives from outside agencies with their investigations pertaining to inmates we house here at our facility.
32. Other duties as requested by the Jailer or Jail Inspector.
33. Any other duties assigned by the Jailer.
