Purpose of Job:

Provide support to students by implementing positive behavioral support strategies in order to improve academic and behavioral outcomes.

Primary Job Duties/Responsibilities:  The following duties are normal for this job.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned as needed.

General Responsibilities/Essential Functions:  

  • Work in cooperation with the behavior support department, special education department, and alongside school teams 
  • Demonstrate ability and willingness to work with students across school settings, including special education and general education classrooms
  • Assist individual students and small groups in developing academic, social, and behavior skills through the implementation of positive reinforcement systems
  • Help to build confidence, self-esteem, and emotional regulation in children through one-to-one and/or group interactions
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students and adults in order to improve the student’s overall behavioral functioning
  • Support and monitor assigned students during academic and nonacademic activities (e.g., lunch, transitions, special area classes, recess, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment
  • Consult with behavior support department (as directed by principal) regarding service delivery and intervention implementation to at risk/qualifying students, as needed
  • Implement behavioral interventions with fidelity as outlined in behavior support plans
  • Utilize calm down areas and sensory room as applicable to the student and strategies approved for implementation by the appropriate support team.
  • Assist teachers with implementation of behavior interventions outlined in behavior support plans.
  • Assist in the analysis and interpretation of results of data collection in order to evaluate student performance and progress, the effectiveness of interventions, strategies and support, and contribute to future plans
  • Collaborate with the special education department and attend IEP team meetings as requested
  • Submit required documentation to behavior support coordinator for record keeping, review, and feedback
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training sessions related to positive reinforcement strategies and behavioral supports
  • Attend all in-service and faculty meetings when directed to do so by the principal or Director of Schools
  • Maintain student confidentiality at all times
  • Perform clerical duties such as preparing instructional materials, making copies, or other duties as assigned
  • Ensure that the use of the district’s resources (time, money, people) are used in the most strategic and effective way possible
  • If a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), must work under the supervision/guidance of a BCBA when acting in this role

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Project a positive image of the LSSD at all times and support district goals
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of district information
  • Support the effective delivery of a high quality of education for all students
  • Provide exceptional levels of professional support and service to staff and public
  • May operate a motor vehicle to conduct various work activities
  • Successful completion of Criminal Justice fingerprint/background process and drug screen
  • Appropriate Attendance Record
  • Dress neatly and appropriately, according to system staff dress code

Qualifications:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • High school diploma.  Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • “Highly Qualified” (i.e. successful completion of Praxis test or 48 hours of college credit, Associates or Bachelor’s Degree)
  • Sufficient experience so that with appropriate training, services may be provided in the specific role for which employed
  • Must be willing to complete Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) training within one year of job placement date. District will incur the cost of training.

Abilities/Physical Requirements

Physical demand requirements may include lifting of students, positioning of students, assisting students with activities.
