The District is seeking applicants for two full-time, 215 day per year, High School Assistant Principal positions.  Assignment will be at Kamiak or Mariner High School.  Position is open until filled.

 

 

 

JOB TITLE:                         HIGH SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

 

CLASSIFICATION:              ADMINISTRATIVE

 

REPORTS TO:                     HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

JOB SUMMARY: The high school assistant principal assists in the management and leadership of the school program to effect student academic achievement, and the social, emotional, and physical development of all students. The Assistant Principal supports the principal in leading a vibrant student body of approximately 2200 students, diverse in identity, culture, interests, and abilities, serving a thriving community focused on deep and lasting partnership. The Assistant Principal ensures the district’s commitment to equity is integrated into all facets of collaboration with students and families, and in conjunction with all building decisions and operations.

 

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Focus on leading all stakeholders in support of the district’s commitment to equity and for students furthest from educational justice.
  • Create a school culture that promotes the ongoing improvement of teaching and learning for students and staff.
  • Nurture a school culture that promotes innovative solutions in order to meet student and family needs.
  • Manage school climate and facilities to promote student, staff, and school safety.
  • Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of a data-driven school program for the purpose of enhancing student achievement for all.
  • Assist instructional staff in the alignment of curriculum, instruction, and assessment with state and local district learning goals.
  • Hire, supervise and evaluate staff to promote effective performance.
  • Manage staff and fiscal resources to support student achievement and fulfill legal responsibilities.
  • Partner with and engage the school community to foster student learning and well being.
  • Identify and effectively address systems resulting in opportunities gaps for all students due to but not limited to such factors as race or economic status.
  • Compile and submit reports and information in a timely manner.
  • Implement and comply with federal and state laws, District policies, and the Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and conform to work hours specified under contract.
  • Interact professionally with students, staff and community.
  • Engage in continuing education studies which insure continuous professional growth.
  • Perform other duties of similar scope and function.

  • Skills in time management and organization.
  • Skills in resolving conflict, addressing issues, and grievances.

  • Skills and ability to evaluate systemic practices that positively and/or negatively affect student needs.
  • Ability to identify and address personal, cultural, and institutional bias.
  • Ability to successfully develop and advance equity and inclusion in educational practices, leadership, and service.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of people under a variety of circumstances.
  • Ability to lead conversations and discourse on topics related to race, class and equity.
  • Ability to adapt to changing work priorities.
  • Ability to utilize district and community resources to meet student and program needs.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess, or be eligible for, Washington State Principal Certificate required.
  • Three or more years of successful teaching experience preferred.
  • Three or more years of successful administrative experience at the secondary level preferred
  • Student cultural and economic diversity experience preferred.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, ability and socioeconomic backgrounds.
