Purpose:

The District Instructional Coach provides job-embedded professional learning, instructional support, mentoring, and coaching to teachers across Rutherford County Schools. The instructional coach works collaboratively with school administrators, instructional staff, and district leaders to improve instructional practices, support teacher growth, increase student achievement, and promote the implementation of district and state initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Instructional Coaching

  • Provide individualized and small-group coaching to teachers using research-based instructional practices.
  • Model effective instructional strategies and classroom management techniques.
  • Facilitate reflective conversations that promote professional growth and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct classroom observations and provide non-evaluative feedback to teachers.
  • Assist teachers with lesson planning, instructional design, assessment practices, and data analysis.
  • Support teachers in implementing district curriculum, instructional resources, and state standards.

Teacher Support and Development

  • Support beginning teachers through the district's Beginning Teacher Support Program.
  • Collaborate with mentors and administrators to provide targeted support for beginning teachers.
  • Assist teachers in developing professional growth plans and achieving instructional goals.
  • Provide support for teachers participating in improvement plans, monitored growth plans, or other targeted interventions as directed by district leadership.
  • Facilitate professional learning communities and collaborative planning opportunities.

Professional Learning

  • Design, coordinate, and facilitate professional development aligned to district goals and school improvement plans.
  • Assist with district-wide training initiatives, workshops, and instructional institutes.
  • Support implementation of state and federal instructional requirements.
  • Provide follow-up coaching and support to ensure effective implementation of professional learning.

Data and Program Support

  • Assist schools in analyzing student achievement and instructional data.
  • Support the development and implementation of school improvement strategies.
  • Monitor instructional trends and identify areas for additional teacher support.
  • Maintain records and documentation related to coaching activities and professional learning.

Collaboration and Leadership

  • Serve as a liaison between schools and district instructional departments.
  • Collaborate with principals, instructional facilitators, and district staff to support instructional priorities.
  • Participate in district committees, leadership teams, and special projects as assigned.
  • Promote a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and instructional excellence.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and effective teaching practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to establish positive and productive working relationships with teachers and administrators.
  • Ability to analyze instructional data and facilitate data-driven decision making.
  • Ability to plan and deliver professional learning for adult learners.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
  • Proficiency with instructional technology and data management systems.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid North Carolina Teaching License.
  • Minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in improving student achievement.
  • Evidence of instructional leadership and collaboration.
  • Master's degree in education or related field preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel frequently between schools and district locations.
  • Ability to perform duties requiring standing, walking, sitting, speaking, hearing, and use of technology for extended periods.

Evaluation:

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with NCDPI policies, procedures, and district expectations.
