This National Guard position is for a IT SPECIALIST (NETWORK) (TITLE 32), Position Description Number NGD1560P01 and is part of the TN 134th ARW Air National Guard.
Qualifications:
Military Grades: E-3 through E-7
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education, and/or training that has provided a basic knowledge of data processing functions and general management principles that enabled the applicant to understand the stages required to automate a work process. Experience may have been gained in work such as computer operator or assistant, computer sales representative, program analyst, or other positions that required the use or adaptation of computer programs and systems.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 36 months experience or 1-year specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade. In addition to the OPM IORs (Alternative A) specialized experience examples, specialized experience includes experience, education, or training those approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls. Experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment. Experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies where is involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion.
Responsibilities:
As an IT SPECIALIST (NETWORK), GS-2210-11, you will design and engineer data and voice networks carried over various transmission systems such as cable systems, fiber optic as well as copper. Plan and design Wide Area Networks (WANs) consisting of Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) and Military Specification (MILSPEC) components to operate IAW accepted Information Technology (IT) security policies using automated network planning tools. Utilize a broad knowledge of IT concepts, principles, methods and practices to (a) provide network services that support a requesting agency's requirements; (b) relate agency requirements to existing technology, policies, priorities, systems capabilities, technology and services, operating practices and procedures, terms/conditions of systems and service contracts, equipment and staffing requirements, costs and funding, and other supporting services required; and (c) identify, direct, and coordinate the actions required to provide needed services. Coordinate frequency assignments with local Spectrum Managers. Determine requirements and request resources from different agencies to support contingency and/or training networks. Identify and correct network and transmission deficiencies in planned or currently operational networks. Determine operational, technical and support requirements for the location, installation, operation and maintenance of network equipment and systems. Develop short and long range planning procedures to meet mission requirements. Develop training programs involving the standardization, control, and/or guidance of communications programs. Serve as the central focal point for all Time Compliance Network Orders (TCNO) system vulnerability alerts. Perform other duties as assigned.Salary : $88,120
