TMS is currently looking for a Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician. The successful candidate will have the ability to perform heavy equipment maintenance and repair work in accordance with factory and industry standards, while meeting company goals.
Job Summary:
The Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing Advanced-level maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on heavy equipment, such as construction machinery, or industrial vehicles. This role involves troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems. The Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician ensures equipment is serviced efficiently, meets safety standards, and is returned to operational condition in a timely manner.
Shifts: Day: 7am -3:30pmNights: 3:30pm - 12pm or possible split shift. On call, nights, and weekends possible.
Pay: $28.50 - $37.00, depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Tooling Requirements
- Company provides large, specialty, and diagnostic tooling.
- Technician Requirements: Tooling requirements by technicians to be provided is 1” and down hand tools to include impact wrenches. Impact wrenches can be pneumatic or electric.
Skills/Abilities
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on diesel powered material handlers, front end loaders, haul trucks, and any other mobile support equipment operated by TMS. Clear understanding of Electrical, hydraulic schematics. Ability to interpret, diagnose and repair using provided system schematics.
- Competent in the use of equipment specific software (CAT ET, SIS, Cummins Insite, etc.) to troubleshoot and repair mobile equipment.
- Must be able to perform repairs safely, to OEM standards, and with minimal supervision.
- Inventory Management: Assist in tracking parts inventory and notifying supervisors of low stock or needed supplies.
Mechanical repair competencies to include:
- Complete PM Services and general maintenance.
- Capable of removal and installation of tire chains timely and correctly.
- Ability to remove and install Ground engagement tools “GET”
- Capable of removal and installation of all auxiliary engine components in compliance with safety and OEM standards.
Electrical repair competencies to include:
- Diagnose and repair short to ground with use of Electrical schematic
- Diagnose and repair faulty switches, lights and harnesses within mobile equipment.
Hydraulic repair competencies to include:
- Diagnose and repair a malfunctioning component within a hydraulic system, typically by replacing worn or damaged seals, hoses, or other parts, like pumps, motors, or valves, to restore the system's functionality and ensure proper fluid pressure and movement within the machine it operates on; this often includes disassembly, inspection, cleaning, component replacement, and reassembly.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; completion/attending of a technical school program in heavy equipment repair, diesel mechanics, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience: 5 years of experience in heavy equipment or diesel mechanics, with demonstrated ability to perform advance repairs.
- Certifications: Manufacturer-specific training, or other relevant certifications are a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50-75 lbs., stand for extended periods, and work in various environments (e.g., shop, field, or outdoor conditions).
- License: Valid driver’s license
Work Environment:
- Primarily in a shop or field setting, with exposure to noise, dust, grease, ambient temperatures, and heavy machinery.
- May require overtime, on-call shifts, or travel to job sites for repairs or training.
