The Employee Benefits Account Manager is responsible for providing day-to-day service and administrative support to employer clients and their employees. This position serves as a primary point of contact for client questions, enrollment issues, eligibility, billing, claims, renewals, open enrollment, and ongoing account management.
The Account Manager will work closely with clients, insurance carriers, vendors, and TMR’s consulting and service teams to ensure benefit programs are administered accurately and efficiently.
This role also includes responsibility for Employee Navigator, membership audits, carrier billing reconciliation, eligibility management, and EDI/834 file integrations. The ideal candidate has strong employee benefits knowledge, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple client priorities with consistent follow-through.
- Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for assigned employee benefits clients.
- Respond to client and employee questions involving eligibility, enrollment, coverage, billing, claims, and carrier procedures.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through timely communication, accuracy, professionalism, and dependable follow-through.
- Process and coordinate employee additions, terminations, qualifying life events, dependent changes, and benefit election updates.
- Conduct regular membership audits by comparing carrier enrollment records, Employee Navigator data, client census information, payroll records, and carrier invoices.
- Review monthly carrier invoices and membership reports to identify enrollment, eligibility, billing, and coverage discrepancies.
- Research and resolve missing enrollments, incorrect effective dates, delayed terminations, duplicate members, retroactive adjustments, and other carrier discrepancies.
- Track outstanding service, enrollment, billing, and claims issues through final resolution and communicate progress to the client.
- Review eligibility records to confirm employees and dependents are enrolled according to client benefit rules and carrier requirements.
- Assist clients and employees with claims, eligibility, billing, and member service issues by coordinating with insurance carriers and vendor partners.
- Support benefit renewals by gathering enrollment data, reviewing plan information, preparing employee communications, and coordinating implementation timelines.
- Manage open enrollment activities, including system preparation, employee communications, enrollment reporting, carrier submissions, and final enrollment audits.
- Onboard new clients and configure benefit plans, eligibility rules, contribution structures, enrollment workflows, and employee-facing content within Employee Navigator.
- Maintain accurate plan information and enrollment settings within Employee Navigator throughout the plan year.
- Support client HR teams with Employee Navigator administration, payroll reporting, employee access, enrollment corrections, and system questions.
- Coordinate EDI/834 enrollment integrations between Employee Navigator and insurance carriers.
- Review EDI transmission reports, error files, and carrier acknowledgments to confirm enrollment information is transmitted and processed accurately.
- Investigate and resolve EDI discrepancies involving employee records, dependent information, coverage tiers, effective dates, terminations, and demographic data.
- Validate enrollment data before and after carrier implementation to confirm coverage matches employee elections.
- Use Excel to organize, compare, reconcile, filter, combine, and analyze enrollment, census, billing, payroll, and eligibility data.
- Maintain accurate client records, benefit documentation, renewal information, correspondence, and service activity.
- Coordinate with insurance carriers, third-party administrators, payroll vendors, benefit technology partners, and internal team members.
- Manage multiple client accounts, service requests, implementation projects, and deadlines while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen administrative processes, reduce enrollment errors, improve workflows, and create a better client and employee experience.
- Three to five years of experience in employee benefits, group health insurance, account management, benefit administration, an insurance carrier, a brokerage, a third-party administrator, or a general agency.
- Working knowledge of group insurance products, including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability coverage.
- Experience servicing employer-sponsored benefit plans and working directly with human resources teams.
- Experience with Employee Navigator or a comparable benefit administration platform preferred.
- Familiarity with EDI/834 enrollment files, carrier feeds, eligibility management, and online enrollment systems strongly preferred.
- Experience conducting membership audits, reviewing carrier invoices, and reconciling enrollment and billing data.
- Strong Excel skills, including data cleanup, filtering, sorting, reconciliation, formatting, and data manipulation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Adobe.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organization, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage competing deadlines, shifting priorities, and multiple client accounts.
- A strong service mindset with the ability to communicate professionally with clients, employees, carriers, and vendors.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, finance, insurance, information systems, or a related field preferred. Relevant industry experience will also be considered.
- Active health and life insurance license preferred or willingness to obtain one.
