Tell the stories that define Wisconsin sports and news. WTMJ, Milwaukee's NBC affiliate owned by The E.W. Scripps Company, is searching for its next Sports-Focused MMJ. WTMJ is the official station of the Green Bay Packers and covers the Bucks and Brewers, along with countless teams and athletes who exemplify Southeast Wisconsin sports. The best candidate will bring character-driven storytelling to life across all platforms. This unique role sits within our sports department but extends beyond the game—you'll craft compelling feature-style news stories that connect with our passionate Wisconsin audience. You'll also bring real-time sports to life through a modern lens. With a heavy emphasis on digital content, you'll be at the forefront of how we engage viewers on every screen, from broadcast to social media. If you're a versatile storyteller who can capture the heart of a story while mastering the technical demands of modern journalism, this is your opportunity to make an impact in one of America's most sports-obsessed markets.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Receive assignments or evaluate news leads and news tips to develop story ideas.
  • Gather and verify factual information through interviews, observation, and research.
  • Organize material, determine slant or emphasis, and write story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.
  • Shoot video and still photos to illustrate stories.
  • Edit, or assist in editing, videos for all multimedia platforms.
  • Appear on TV in live and prerecorded situations.
  • Work cooperatively with photographer assigned to story, if one is assigned.
  • Assist news producer in preparing newscast.
  • Assist online staff in preparing for multimedia stories.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • BS/BA in related discipline or equivalent years of experience preferred
  • Generally, 3 years of experience in related field preferred

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Computer literacy required, including newsroom computer systems
  • Videography and non-linear editing experience preferred
  • Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment
  • Edit video on Final Cut Pro editing systems, or similar equipment
  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills
  • Proficient at posting content to various websites
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a deadline-driven environment
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, and ability to provide proof of insurance with the company-required insurance limits
