We are looking for an experienced Employee Benefits Account Manager who can step into an established book of primarily small-group, fully insured and level-funded clients and manage their day-to-day needs with limited training.
The Account Manager works closely with multiple benefits advisors, typically three, who retain overall ownership of the client relationship and provide guidance on renewal strategy. The Account Manager leads the work needed to keep each account moving, from resolving daily service issues through preparing renewals and coordinating open enrollment.
· Serve as the primary day-to-day service contact for an assigned book of employee benefits clients.
· Respond to benefit questions and resolve issues involving claims, billing, eligibility, enrollment, and coverage.
· Coordinate with carriers, vendors, clients, and internal team members to move issues to resolution.
· Manage the renewal process, including requesting quotes, organizing and comparing options, preparing client presentation materials, and tracking decisions and deadlines.
· Work with the benefits advisor to evaluate renewal options and prepare recommendations for the client.
· Participate in renewal meetings and clearly explain benefit options, plan changes, and next steps.
· Coordinate open enrollment, including employee communications, enrollment meetings, and carrier submissions.
· Coordinate new group implementation, benefit changes, and carrier or vendor transitions.
· Provide general guidance on common employee benefit compliance requirements and identify matters that require additional compliance or legal support.
· Maintain accurate client information, activity notes, and documentation in the agency's systems.
· Identify additional client needs and bring potential solutions or service opportunities to the benefits advisor for consideration.
What You Bring· At least three years of employee benefits account management, brokerage, carrier, or closely related experience.
· Hands-on experience supporting fully insured group health plans and managing annual renewals.
· Working knowledge of medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and voluntary benefit programs.
· Ability to independently manage multiple clients, competing deadlines, and detailed follow-up.
· Strong problem-solving skills and the judgment to know when an issue should be escalated.
· Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills, including comfort presenting to clients and employees.
· Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accurate, responsive service.
· Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and Excel and comfort learning agency management and quoting platforms.
· An active Life and Health insurance license or the ability to obtain the appropriate license promptly.
Experience That Would Be Especially Valuable· Experience supporting level-funded health plans.
· Experience with self-funded health plans.
· Experience using an agency CRM, Perfect Quote, or a comparable quoting and renewal platform.
· Experience preparing and presenting renewal analyses and conducting employee open enrollment meetings.
· Familiarity with common employee benefit compliance requirements.
Location and TravelWe prefer a candidate based in the Reno area, but we are open to hiring the right experienced professional remotely. Remote employees must be available during Pacific Time business hours and should expect to travel approximately once per quarter to Reno and Las Vegas. Occasional client travel may also be required.
The anticipated salary range is $50,000-$70,000 annually, based on relevant experience, licensing, and qualifications. TLC offers a benefits package that includes paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, an HSA option, and a 401(k) plan.
