Position Title: Assistant Director / Staff Support
Classification: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Pay Range: $26.00–$29.00/hour
Reports To: Educational Services Manager (ESM)
Schedule: Full-Time (40 hours/week)
- 20 hours/week: Classroom Support Teacher
- 20 hours/week: Assistant Director Duties
Position Summary
The Assistant Director/Staff Support role assists the Child Care Director/Educational Services Manager (ESM) in all aspects of the educational program. This position supports daily operations, staff supervision, and program quality while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and organizational standards. This role is responsible for maintaining compliance with:
- Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) Rules and Regulations Governing the Health and Sanitation of Child Care Facilities
- Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) Child Care Licensing Regulations
- Colorado Shines Guidelines
- TLC Learning Center policies, procedures, and curriculum
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operations & Scheduling
- Develop and manage staff schedules, including daily adjustments to maintain required child-to-teacher ratios
- Serve as Director-in-Charge in the absence of the Director
- Support kitchen operations and nutrition program as needed
Compliance & Training
- Support ongoing compliance with all licensing and health department regulations
- Complete required PDIS training annually or as assigned
- Provide classroom coverage to allow staff to complete required trainings
- Assist with additional trainings as required by licensing agencies, Health Department, ESM, or Executive Director
Staff Support & Development
- Provide ongoing support and coaching to Educational Services (ES) staff in collaboration with the ESM
- Support implementation of TLC curriculum using a strength-based, reflective approach
- Assist with staff professional development as assigned
- Provide classroom support as needed
- Serve as a role model for effective classroom management and professional conduct
- Promote positive, professional relationships among staff
- Support and implement Pyramid Model and trauma-informed practices across classrooms
Organizational Support
- Promote TLC Learning Center in a positive and professional manner while contributing to a collaborative, respectful workplace culture
- Participate in fundraising efforts and community engagement activities
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to support the center in various roles as needed to ensure smooth daily operations
- Assist with planning and participation in center-wide events, including:
- Back to School Night
- Preschool Graduation
- Young Athletes Celebration
- Christmas Tree Festival
Minimum Qualifications
- Must meet Colorado Early Childhood Teacher (ECT) qualifications
- Must meet Colorado Large Center Director qualifications
- Minimum of 2–5 years of verifiable experience working with children ages birth–5
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Ability to safely lift and carry children and perform physical job duties as required
- Experience implementing Pyramid Model practices
- Working knowledge of trauma-informed care and its application in early childhood settings
- Proficiency with computers and standard technology systems, including email, document creation, and childcare management software
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or related field
- Previous experience in an Assistant Director, Director, or leadership role in a licensed childcare setting
- Bilingual or Spanish language proficiency
- Experience with Procare or similar childcare management systems
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, carry, and supervise children, including occasional lifting of up to 30–40 pounds
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move frequently throughout the day
- Ability to engage in floor activities, including sitting on the floor and transitioning to standing
- Ability to actively participate in indoor and outdoor activities in various weather conditions
- Ability to respond quickly to children’s needs, including emergencies
- Ability to maintain visual and auditory supervision of children at all times
- Ability to use standard office and classroom equipment, including computers and tablets
- Ability to travel locally for work-related meetings, trainings, and events as needed
