What are the responsibilities and job description for the Machine Operator II position at TLC Electronics?

Job Purpose:
This position is responsible for daily set up and operation of automated wire cutting machines paying close attention to quality and ensuring it meets specifications, tolerances, and customer order requirements.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is required to assure compliance of Company operations to all applicable laws, regulations and standards, good business practices and company documented procedures (including but not limited to Quality Systems Regulations, ISO 9001, ISO 13485, government occupational health and environmental regulations and statutes).


Machine Operation
Core Responsibility
• Set up cut/strip/crimp machines per process sheet
• Exchange cutting blades, rollers, and guide tubes to match the wire being processed
• Clean any debris from the machine before, during, and after each run
• Complete basic maintenance on wire cutting and crimping machines
• Count and bundle cut wires in easy to manage groups
• Operate machines effectively to minimize scrap
• Pick and document lot numbers of product used on assemblies
• Sort and remove defective parts or products
• Move between machines as assigned by schedule, Lead, Supervisor, or Manage
• Support and inspect work of level I Machine Operators as needed
• Support Production team with troubleshooting applicator or machine issues


Quality Assurance
Core Responsibility
• Understand and inspect products against IPC standards
• Read and interpret customer prints
• Enter applicable job data into ERP system


Safety and Cleanliness
Core Responsibility
• Adhere to all safety regulations
• Identify and report any safety concerns
• Maintain a clean work environment by cleaning workstation and plant areas as assigned


Complete other tasks or duties as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Ability to set-up and operate machines related to wire/cable processing.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• High mechanical aptitude.
• Math skills including the ability to solve fractions, addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication problems.
• Troubleshoot problems with the operation of automated machines.
• Working knowledge of wire harness, assembly processes and practices, tooling, and fixtures.
• Ability to accurately read a ruler/tape measure.
• Ability to use a caliper/micrometer and microscope.
• Ability to read and understand standard operating procedures (SOPs), schematics, prints, and drawings.
• Ability to learn various operations and equipment within the production floor and perform proficiently.
• Skill to perform inspections.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers.
• Ability to adapt to changes in technology.
• Good verbal communications skills.
• Ability to use and understand computers and their software programs such as an ERP system.
• Able to question or identify the need for additional / missing information such as dimensions or tolerances.


Qualifications:
Minimum
• High school diploma or equivalent work experience.
• 1 Year related experience in machine operation.


Preferred:
• Familiar with ISO 9001 or ISO 13485 quality standards.
• Familiar with an ERP system.
• Lean manufacturing and continual process improvement experience.
• Experience operating automated machinery i.e.: Komax, Kodera, Schluniger etc.
• Three (3) or more years of experience in a related position or equivalent work experience with machine set-up and operation.


Physical Requirements/Capabilities:
• Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and the ability to talk and hear.
• Ability to frequently sit for prolonged amounts of time, stand, walk, reach with hands and arm's length, climb or balance, stoop or bend, push, pull, kneel, and crouch.
• Good hand eye coordination, good hand dexterity and strength.
• Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus, and discern colors.
• Ability to tolerate moderate noise level in the work environment.
• High degree of manual dexterity.
• Ability to perform repetitive work.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and kneel as job requires.
