Senior Manager of Global Communications

The TJX Senior Manager of Global Communications is a key role reporting to the Vice President of Global Communications and is based in our Framingham, MA headquarters. This role is accountable for the successful formulation and execution of corporate communications strategies to support the business initiatives of a dynamic, growing global business. 

 

In this role, you will be part of a highly visible communications team that works with all levels of the organization across the Company, including directly with the highest levels of management and divisional leadership. You will have responsibility for managing a high-volume of communications across a variety of topics that could impact the Company’s perception and reputation among key constituencies, including customers, Associates, media, or investors. Collaboration skills are critical as you will work with a variety of internal stakeholders, serving as a senior resource to the Company with a goal of ensuring/coordinating consistency of Company messaging and minimizing negative impact from reputation-threatening situations. 

 

This role is a primary member of the crisis-ready communications team, which requires 24-hour availability during significant events or crises. In this role, you will act as one of the Company’s primary corporate spokespersons with the press and other external parties. 

 

Your Impact

 

Media Relations

  • Handle inbound media inquiries, including responding to media calls, reviewing/drafting media statements, and correcting inaccuracies in news stories. Work closely with leadership to review, fact check, and vet statements being made on behalf of TJX.
  • Act as one of the Company’s primary corporate spokespersons with general news, issues, and financial/business media.
  • Support corporate and financial press releases or other similar communications, including quarterly earnings reports. Monitor media coverage of announcements and correct inaccuracies in news stories.

Issues/Crisis Communications

  • Coordinate issues or crisis communications efforts on fast-moving issues as they emerge. Develop response strategies, draft communications, and coordinate with internal stakeholders. Ensure follow-up is completed to minimize future risk.
  • Serve as a core member of the Field Escalation Team, tasked with managing escalated customer concerns. Work with team members to mitigate risk and manage communications related to issues connected to our stores.

 

Corporate Communications/Reputation Management

  • Develop communications materials to support corporate or divisional initiatives (business acquisitions, announcements, disclosures, etc.).
  • Lead oversight, strategy, and content for the Company’s corporate website, TJX.com, working in tandem with IT and user experience teams, as well as key subject matter experts.
  • Collaborate with Internal Communications team and other internal stakeholders for major Associate communications.
  • Provide consultation to internal teams across the Company to help mitigate reputational risk of planned Company initiatives. Review and provide guidance on externally facing communications, such as retail brand marketing press releases, campaigns, and social/traditional media strategies, as well as third-party communications referencing TJX or its brands.
  • Support additional Company disclosures, communications, and events.

 

Corporate Responsibility

  • Manage components of the Company’s Global Corporate Responsibility reporting initiatives, developing relevant communications in partnership with internal subject matter experts.
  • Develop core content for TJX’s Global Corporate Responsibility Report.
  • Oversee Corporate Responsibility content development for internal communications, including regular newsletter content, intranet content, etc.
  • Oversee content development for social media.
  • Support other related communications needs, including investor or other external stakeholder engagements.

 

Who We Are Looking For: You.

 

  • 10 years’ corporate communications and/or public relations experience; have held senior roles at consumer/retail or other large, public companies or an international communications agency.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required. 
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal, are a must. Ability to communicate complex business information in a clear and compelling way.
  • Issues/crisis management and media experience are required, as is experience coordinating communications efforts across a large, international organization.
  • Prior experience supporting corporate responsibility/ESG strongly preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, balanced with ability to look at the big picture.
  • Hands-on approach, flexible, adaptable, and willing to do whatever it takes to deliver results in tight time frames and under pressure.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships, internally and externally, at all levels.
  • Ability and adaptability to be “crisis ready,” including flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays, as needed, and during department’s busy periods, both scheduled and unanticipated. 
  • Experience or interest in a fashion/retail/consumer industry.
