Responsibilities
- Operate CNC grinding machines, including CNC lathe and CNC milling machines, to shape and sharpen cutting tools with high precision.
- Learn to program CNC grinders using CNC programming languages and CAM software to produce complex tool geometries efficiently.
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and manufacturing specifications to ensure accurate tool fabrication.
- Utilize precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM) to verify tool dimensions and tolerances.
- Maintain and set up tooling using hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment like electrical discharge machining (EDM) machines for intricate shaping tasks.
- Follow lean manufacturing principles to optimize workflow, reduce waste, and improve overall process efficiency.
- Conduct routine inspections of tools using precision measuring instruments to uphold quality standards and ensure longevity of tooling.
Skills
- Proficient and/or familiarity in CNC programming or similar systems.
- Strong understanding of expectations for precise measurement and quality control.
- Experience with electrical discharge machining (EDM) processes for complex tool fabrication.
- Skilled in CAM programming software such as SolidWorks or CAD systems for designing and modifying tooling components.
- Mechanical knowledge related to machining operations, tooling setup, and maintenance of CNC equipment.
- Ability to learn or read blueprints accurately and interpret technical drawings for manufacturing purposes.
- Knowledge of plastics injection molding processes is a plus for applications involving plastic components.
- Familiarity with welding techniques, assembly procedures, and the use of hand tools or power tools for tooling maintenance or modification.
- Ability to operate forklifts safely when handling raw materials or finished tooling components.
