Maintains a fiscally sound food service operation that produces well balanced, home-cooked/scratch cooking, while staying within an assigned budget.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Interacts with residents and staff in a professional, friendly, and compassionate manner at all times.
- Oversees 3 meals daily for community residents.
- Responds to resident comments/complaints and addresses concerns.
- Develops menus containing well-balanced meals and alternative choices.
- Plates food in an attractive manner.
- Works with vendors to order quality, cost-effective foods.
- Places food and non-food orders and maintains inventory.
- Maintains a safe, sanitary, clean, and organized cooking area.
- Oversees all functions of kitchen and dining room services.
- Prepares and cooks food; maintains kitchen in accordance with community and health department standards.
- Demonstrates a caring personality with excellent listening skills.
- Directs, supervises, and evaluates work activities of staff, including hiring, disciplining, and firing if needed.
- Competent in organization and time management.
- Demonstrates high standards of ethics and personal accountability.
- Follows all OSHA, Fire, Health Department, and safety requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
- On-call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week if needed, or on rotation established by the community.
- Job requires walking and standing for extended periods of time.
- Push, pull, lift up to 50 lbs.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED; culinary training preferred.
- Minimum 5 years cooking/food service experience.
- Previous experience as a Sous Chef; Executive Chef experience, preferred.
- Serve Safe certification required.
- Ability to develop menus and recipes.
- Ability to provide positive leadership and train and develop staff.
- Working knowledge of the rules and regulations related to health and safety in food preparation.
- Knowledgeable of food service and safe food handling practices.
- Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively with residents and co-workers in English.
- Ability to use math to calculate recipes.
- Must have skills necessary to prepare dishes for specialized diets.
- Demonstrate good judgement skills.
- Must be computer literate.
- Ability to work well under stress, complete assignments accurately, and work independently, as well as with co-workers.
- Demonstrate desire to be a team player.
- Regular attendance is required.
