The Director of Specialty Services provides strategic leadership and oversight for all NDE programs, operations, and technical excellence across the organization. This role is accountable for developing long-range departmental strategy, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and client standards, advancing NDE technical capabilities, and driving operational performance across multiple regions. The Director partners closely with executive leadership, field operations, recruiting, and quality teams to ensure adherence to industry standards, maintain workforce readiness, and deliver exceptional service quality to clients. This position is responsible for program governance, enterprise-level process improvement, and the continuous development of inspector competency and certification pathways.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED)
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for all NDE programs, including long-term planning, technical advancement, and nationwide operational performance.
- Serve as the organizational subject-matter expert for NDE methods, ensuring alignment with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and client specifications.
- Establish, implement, and maintain company-wide NDE policies, quality standards, procedures, and best practices.
- Collaborate with executive leadership, operations, and recruiting to develop workforce strategies, including forecasting labor needs, certification pipelines, and competency development.
- Oversee inspector performance, quality outcomes, and compliance across all active projects and regions.
- Lead organizational efforts in talent development, including training programs, certification pathways, and advancement opportunities for inspectors and technicians.
- Provide technical guidance and direction on complex NDE applications, quality concerns, client escalations, and interpretation of applicable codes and standards.
- Ensure accurate reporting, documentation, and recordkeeping of NDE activities, certifications, OQ compliance, quality findings, and audit results.
- Partner with Quality, Safety, and Operations to evaluate and improve inspection practices, root cause analysis processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support business development by participating in client meetings, presenting technical capabilities, and helping secure new work opportunities.
- Oversee implementation and governance of NDE technology, equipment standards, and emerging inspection tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Review project performance metrics, budget adherence, and operational KPIs, providing regular updates and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, regulatory bodies, certification organizations, and industry partners to ensure organizational alignment and credibility.
- Lead NDE compliance audits, internal assessments, corrective action planning, and follow-up activities.
- Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, and technical excellence across all departments involved in NDE service delivery.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 10 years of NDE experience with pipeline integrity, mechanical integrity, construction, or related environments.
- Demonstrated leadership experience overseeing multi-state operations or large-scale field programs.
- Advanced knowledge of NDE methods (UT, MT, PT, PAUT), including standards such as API, ASME, ASNT, and other applicable codes.
- Strong understanding of OQ programs, certification requirements, audit processes, and client compliance expectations.
- Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and long-term program objectives.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex technical data and quality outcomes.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead teams, present to executives, and collaborate with clients.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to utilize databases, reporting tools, and project management systems.
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and operate with professionalism.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Internal – Work is normally performed in an office environment
External –Occasional contact with clients and vendors.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work involves standing and walking for periods of time, but most duties are performed from a seated position. Work normally requires finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination to operate a computer keyboard at a moderate skill level. May require extended hours to meet schedules or deadlines or meet with potential or current customers. From time-to-time site visits will involve extended periods outside in the prevailing climatic conditions.
