What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clinic Nurse position at Tioga Medical Center?
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum requirements include the following:
RN:
High School Diploma or GED
Associate degree in Nursing (ADN) from accredited college or university required; BSN preferred.
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing with the State of North Dakota required.
Must have active BLS certification
Must have no disciplinary action in effect against license.
LPN:
High School Diploma or GED.
Practical Nursing Diploma from accredited college or university required.
Current Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in good standing with the State of North Dakota required.
Must have active BLS certification.
IV Certification preferred.
Must have no disciplinary action in effect against certification
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Prepare patient rooms for the day with any supplies.
Gather oximeter and thermometer that will be used for the day and turn in when done with patients for the day.
Check medication room fridges temperatures (morning and end of shift) and AED.
If needed for the day calibrate Respiratory function test and Audiogram; turn machines off at the end of the day.
Check and respond/delegate in basket messages in computer throughout the day.
Check mail room throughout the day for faxes and mail needed for provider.
Remove paper bedding from patient rooms at the end of the day and put red flag out for housekeeping.
Count Narcotics at the end of the day with 2 nurses.
Prepares patients for examinations, tests or treatments that will be done by the providers.
Applies and changes dressings; removes sutures/staples, cerumen removal if so ordered by a provider after examination or from written order.
Verifies DOB, writes a brief history of the patient?s complaints in the patient's chart with complete assessment including height, weight, vital signs, current medications, allergies, personal, surgical, and social history to be completed and updated in EMR.
If patient is self-pay, assist in determining prices for any service that is ordered with the help of office staff.
Prior authorizations for CT scans and MRIs if needed for health insurances
Be an active member of the TMC Quality Assurance Program.
Does insurance questionnaires.
Restock patient exam rooms.
Makes a list of supplies needed and orders.
Does EKG?s, blood draws, urine collection and dipsticks, accu-checks, Hgb A1Cs, urine pregnancy tests, rapid strep test, Influenza A&B screening, mono tests, RSV tests when lab personnel are not available, and delivers what is needed to hospital lab.
Responsible for directing patients to correct departments, such as Patient Education, lab, or radiology.
Administers medication if so ordered by physicians; oral, IM, IV (if certified), subcutaneous; administers all allergy shots with a physician in house.
Checks outdates on supplies and medications - updates Emergency Response cart.
Performs patient education and referrals as needed.
Works closely with pharmacist for medication changes, refills and updates.
Works closely with all visiting physicians with preparations completed prior to scheduled visits, including labs, x-rays, scans, etc.
Travels to our satellite clinics.
Does audiogram and vision screenings, if ordered.
Does outpatient nurse visits as ordered by provider or following standing order protocols in between patients including, but not limited to:
a) Allergy injections
b) Blood pressure checks
c) Depo-Provera, B12, flu, tetanus, shingles, pneumonia injections
d) Wound care, suture removal, dressing changes
Attend department and in-service meetings.
May be required to travel to attend work-related meetings and educational opportunities.
Perform all duties or tasks requested by the Clinic Manager and/or Administration.
ADDITIONAL TASKS
Treats all residents and patients with dignity and respect. Promotes and protects all residents? and patients? rights.
Establishes a culture of compliance by adhering to all facility policies and procedures. Complies with standards of business conduct, and state/federal regulations and guidelines.
Follows appropriate safety and hygiene measures at all times to protect residents, patients, and themselves.
Understands and demonstrates knowledge of infection control practices, Universal Precautions, OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen Standard, and follows compliance with established policies and procedures.
Maintains confidentiality of protected health information, including verbal, written, and electronic communications.
Reports noncompliance with policies, procedures, regulations, or breaches in confidentiality to appropriate personnel. Reports any retaliation or discrimination to HR or CEO.
Reports any allegations of abuse, neglect, misappropriation of property, exploitation, or mistreatment of residents to supervisor and/or administrator. Protects residents and patients from abuse and cooperates with all investigations.
Reports any occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals in accordance with facility policy.
Participates in all life safety and emergency drills and trainings. Fulfills responsibilities as assigned during implementation or activation of the facility?s emergency plan.
Reports work-related injuries and illnesses immediately to supervisor.
Follows established infection control policies and procedures.
As a condition of employment, completes all assigned training and skills competency.

Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time at a desk while working on a computer.
Ability to maintain good balance, stand for prolonged periods of time.
Must have good hand and finger dexterity as required for duties of the position, administer oral medications, injections, and IV solutions according to NDBON guidelines and TMC policies, insert catheters, and perform CPR.
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, perform overhead lifting and perform other common physical movements as needed for the position.
Ability to lift, move, push or pull a minimum of 50 pounds.
Must have physical agility to respond in a quick manner and in accordance with established facility practices regarding unexpected patient safety needs.
Meets general health requirements according to facility policy, including medical and physical exams and checking immunity status to various infectious diseases.
Ability to assist in evacuation of residents and patients during emergency situations.
Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases and/or conditions which include AIDS, Coronavirus, Hepatitis B, and Tuberculosis.
May be subject to falls, burns from equipment, and/or odors throughout the day; encounter reactions from dust, disinfectants, and other air contaminants.
May be subject to hostile or emotional residents, patients, family members, visitors or personnel.
Intermediate computer skills, including ability to complete records and forms, and navigate electronic medical record systems.
Subject to frequent interruptions.
Communicates with medical and nursing staff, and other departments.
Subject to call-back during emergency conditions.
