QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications include the following:
    • High School Diploma or GED
    • Knowledge of medical and surgical terminology and all professional equipment on the floor
    • Must have active BLS certification


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  1. Responsible for operating room stocking with pre-op and post-op or preparation of room.
  2. Responsible for sterilization of supplies used in the emergency room and clinic and operating room areas of Tioga Medical Center.
  3. Maintains proper requisitions, storing, preparation and issuing of dressings, packs, treatment, and dressing trays, fluids and all professional equipment.
  4. Maintains the service of the operating room and maintains supplies.
  5. Maintains the integrity of sterile processing and sterility assurance in accordance with AAMI guidelines.
  6. Assists the circulating RN in the operating room.
  7. Maintain a clean atmosphere in the central supply room and operating room. Assumes call for either central supply or emergency operations as assigned by Surgery Director.
  8. Active in quality assurance and infection control and must be informed and follow OSHA guidelines.
  9. Maintain the proper surgery dress code.
  10. Attend surgery department meetings and inservices provided to improve individual abilities and techniques. be willing to comply with the goals and objectives set by the hospital.
  11. Attend in-services, and other various meetings.
  12. May be required to travel to attend work-related meetings and educational opportunities.
  13. Perform all duties or tasks requested by the Surgery Director and/or CEO.


ADDITIONAL TASKS
  1. Treats all residents and patients with dignity and respect. Promotes and protects all residents' and patients' rights.
  2. Establishes a culture of compliance by adhering to all facility policies and procedures. Complies with standards of business conduct, and state/federal regulations and guidelines.
  3. Understands and demonstrates knowledge of infection control practices, Universal Precautions, OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen Standard, and follows compliance with established policies and procedures.
  4. Maintains confidentiality of protected health information, including verbal, written, and electronic communications.
  5. Reports noncompliance with policies, procedures, regulations, or breaches in confidentiality to appropriate personnel. Reports any retaliation or discrimination to CEO.
  6. Reports any allegations of abuse, neglect, misappropriation of property, exploitation, or mistreatment of residents to supervisor and/or administrator. Protects residents and patients from abuse and cooperates with all investigations.
  7. Reports any occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals in accordance with facility policy.
  8. Participates in all life safety and emergency drills and trainings. Fulfills responsibilities as assigned during implementation or activation of the facility's emergency plan.
  9. Reports work-related injuries and illnesses immediately to supervisor.
  10. Follows established infection control policies and procedures.
  11. As a condition of employment, completes all assigned training and skills competency.

  1. Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language.

  7. Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, patients, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
  8. Must have patience, tact, and willingness to deal with difficult residents, patients, family and staff.
  9. Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.
  10. Must not pose a threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the workplace.
  11. Meets general health requirements according to facility policy, including medical and physical exams and checking immunity status to various infectious diseases.
  12. Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  13. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, perform overhead lifting and perform other common physical movements as needed for the position.
  14. Ability to maintain good balance, stand for prolonged periods of time.
  15. Must have good visual, audible, hand and finger dexterity as required for duties of the position, according to TMC policies, and perform CPR.
  16. Ability to lift, move, push or pull a minimum of 50 pounds.
  17. Must have physical agility to respond in a quick manner and in accordance with established facility practices regarding unexpected patient safety needs.
  18. Must have the mental capability to follow orders and self-motivation to ensure smooth running of the Central Supply Room.
  19. Must be willing to comply with the goals and objectives set by the hospital.
  20. Must be knowledgeable and aware of legal responsibilities and limits of scope of practice.
  21. Must possess basic computer skills, such as navigating electronic medical record systems.
  22. Ability to complete forms and records, both electronically and on paper.
  23. Ability to work beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
  24. Ability to assist in evacuation of residents and patients during emergency situations.
  25. Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases and/or conditions which include AIDS, Coronavirus, Hepatitis B, and Tuberculosis.
  26. May be subject to falls, burns from equipment, and/or odors throughout the day; encounter reactions from dust, disinfectants, and other air contaminants.
  27. May be subject to hostile or emotional residents, patients, family members, visitors or personnel.
  28. Works in well-lit, ventilated area and in the operating room.
  29. Subject to frequent interruptions.
  30. Communicates with medical and nursing staff, and other departments.
  31. Subject to call-back during emergency conditions.
