Duties
- Operate asphalt pavers, screeds, and related paving equipment to lay asphalt efficiently and accurately according to project plans.
- Conduct routine maintenance on paving machinery, including lubrication, adjustments, and minor repairs to ensure optimal performance.
- Monitor paving operations to ensure proper material flow, thickness, and surface smoothness, making adjustments as needed.
- Assist with the setup of construction sites by preparing surfaces, installing rebar forms, and coordinating with other heavy equipment operators such as loaders, excavators, and dump trucks.
- Follow all safety regulations including DOT (Department of Transportation) standards, construction site protocols, and equipment safety procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
- Support concrete work when required by operating concrete mixers, pumping equipment, or finishing concrete surfaces in conjunction with asphalt paving tasks.
- Document daily activities, report equipment issues promptly, and adhere to project timelines for efficient project completion.
Skills
- Proven experience operating paving equipment such as screeds, pavers, and heavy machinery like excavators and loaders.
- Strong mechanical knowledge for routine maintenance and troubleshooting of construction machinery.
- Familiarity with bituminous materials used in asphalt paving as well as concrete products including mixers and finishing tools.
- Ability to perform basic math calculations for measurements, material quantities, and project specifications.
- Knowledge of safety regulations including OSHA standards, DOT (Department of Transportation) rules, and construction site safety protocols.
- Experience working on civil infrastructure projects involving roadways, highways, or similar large-scale construction sites.
- Skilled in concrete forming, rebar installation, concrete finishing techniques, and concrete pumping when necessary.
- Valid commercial truck driving license with experience operating dump trucks or other commercial vehicles used on construction sites.
- Working knowledge of construction site operations including concrete work coordination and heavy equipment operation for efficient project execution.
