Marine Technician – Inboard / Sterndrive Specialty
Tims Ford Powersports is expanding our marine service department due to the continued growth of our overall marine business, particularly in the surf and wake boat segment. We are looking for an experienced Marine Technician to join our team.
This position will involve a broad range of marine service, repair, rigging, diagnostics, and maintenance. While we are looking for someone who is particularly strong with inboard and sterndrive systems, we want a technician who is comfortable working across a variety of marine systems and willing to take on different types of boats and service challenges.

Primary Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide variety of marine vessels and systems
- Perform service and repairs on inboard, sterndrive (I/O), outboard, and other marine propulsion systems
- Provide specialized diagnostic and repair work on surf and wake boats, including inboard propulsion systems
- Troubleshoot engine, fuel, electrical, cooling, steering, transmission, drivetrain, and propulsion system issues
- Perform scheduled maintenance, seasonal service, and general repairs on recreational boats
- Diagnose and repair marine electrical and accessory systems
- Perform rigging, installation, and preparation of new boats for delivery
- Complete warranty repairs according to manufacturer guidelines and specifications
- Conduct water testing when necessary to verify repairs, diagnose problems, and confirm proper performance
- Accurately document repairs, parts usage, diagnostic findings, and labor performed
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
- Assist with the diagnosis and repair of unfamiliar systems when necessary
- Work cooperatively with other technicians and service department personnel
- Take ownership of assigned jobs from diagnosis through completion
Qualifications
- Experienced marine technician with a strong understanding of marine systems
- Experience working on inboard and/or sterndrive propulsion systems strongly preferred
- Experience with PCM, Indmar, MerCruiser, Volvo Penta, or similar marine powerplants preferred
- Experience with outboard marine engines is a plus
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting abilities across mechanical, electrical, and marine systems
- Ability to read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
- Experience with surf/wake boats is a plus
- Experience with LightSpeed DMS is preferred
- Basic computer skills for work orders, diagnostics, and service documentation
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Ability to safely operate and maneuver boats and trailers
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and team-first mentality
