What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavior Interventionist - Timberline Middle School position at Timberline Middle School?
Position Criteria:
- Valid Iowa teaching license
- Preferred endorsements (at least one):
- K-8 or 5-12 Counseling
- Special Education
- Educational Leadership
- Experience working with middle level students with behavior needs
- Experience working within a MTSS structure to improve student outcomes
- Experience working with school staff on improving systems and supports for students (preferred)
- Strong communication skills between a wide range of stakeholders
- Strong level of data competence and regular use of district data systems (ex Tableau, PowerSchool)
Performance Criteria:
- Support the creation and implementation of MTSS behavior supports
Student Components:
- Reinforce and practice skills lessons taught by teacher with the students
- Provide effective de-escalation strategies to students who are struggling
- Support student incentive plans/reward systems
- Support office with response to low-level behaviors
- Communicate with students and families
- Attend initial IEP/504 meetings of students with behavior supports (when appropriate)
Staff Components:
- Consult with teachers and administration regarding student intervention plans
- Provide ongoing communication about student supports with staff
- Conduct classroom observations and collaborate with staff on improving both proactive and reactive adult actions around student behavior support
- Collaborate with district behavior coaches
- Flexible in adapting to student and program needs
System Components:
- Attend team meetings and play a lead role in the MTSS process around behavior concerns
- Coordinate the building check in/check out system
- Coordinate small group social skills groups
- Contribute to building-wide Tier I culture/behavior instruction (ex advisory lessons)
- Oversee the implementation of alternate education programs within the building
- Complete CPI training and be a member of the building's safety team
- Complete assigned supervision duties
