What are the responsibilities and job description for the AutoCAD Designer position at Timber Systems?
Autodesk AutoCAD Designer (Mid-Level) – Timber Systems, Lapeer, MI
Come Design What Nature Built – Join Timber Systems as Our Next AutoCAD Pro!
We’re Timber Systems, a team of timber lovers based in Lapeer, Michigan, who design and build massive timber structures for commercial construction across the U.S. We’re small, specialized, and passionate about what we do—and now we’re looking for a skilled Autodesk AutoCAD Designer to join our growing crew.
If you’re a detail-driven CAD wizard who’s been around the block a few times (6 years), knows how to own a project, and loves the idea of working on structures that are equal parts art and engineering—we want to talk.
What You’ll Do
- Create 3D models of complex timber structures and generate precise 2D shop and layout drawings
- Lead small design packages and collaborate closely with engineering and project management from kickoff to install
- Review and check models, drawings, and BOMs for accuracy, buildability, and alignment with specs
- Apply your deep Autodesk AutoCAD skills to support fabrication, procurement, and construction documentation that actually gets built
What You Need to Bring
- 6–7 years of Autodesk AutoCAD experience (2D 3D), preferably in structural or architectural contexts
- Strong understanding of tolerances, BOM creation, fitment, and construction methods
- Pro-level communication with engineers and teammates—verbal, written, and yes, email counts too
- Proven ability to self-manage deadlines, action items, and detail-focused work without micromanagement
Bonus Points For
- Revit knowledge or a willingness to learn it
- Experience in timber construction, steel detailing, or fabrication-level drawing work
- Engineering degree (or working toward one), especially if EIT certification is a future goal
- A knack for translating markups and design intent into clean, buildable drawings
The Practical Stuff
- Job Type: Full-time, in-person only (Lapeer, MI)
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8-hour shifts

- Excellent health insurance — we cover nearly all premiums for you and your family
- 50% coverage of your deductible HSA plan to help cut down out-of-pocket costs
- Optional dental and vision coverage
- Traditional Roth 401(k) with 50% match on the first 5% after 1 year
