Role Description The Sales Design Consultant is a full-time, on-site role based in New Haven, CT. This role is responsible for guiding customers through the tile and stone selection process, listening to their needs, and providing expert design advice for residential and commercial projects. The consultant will create design concepts, prepare product recommendations and quotes, and present solutions that align with customer budgets and style preferences. Day-to-day responsibilities include greeting and engaging showroom visitors, maintaining product displays, managing follow-ups, and supporting customers from initial consultation through purchase. The role also involves meeting sales goals, processing orders accurately, coordinating with operations teams, and staying current on product lines, trends, and installation applications.
Qualifications
- Strong customer service skills, with the ability to build trust, listen actively, and provide a positive showroom experience.
- Sales skills, including consultative selling, closing techniques, and comfort working with sales targets or KPIs.
- Interior design-related skills, such as space planning, color coordination, and basic understanding of materials and finishes.
- Knowledge of furniture and furnishings, or related experience integrating tile and stone with overall interior aesthetics.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with clear, professional spoken and written English.
- Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple customer projects at once.
- Comfort working in a showroom or retail environment, including weekends or evenings as needed.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications and ability to learn point-of-sale and design tools; experience with design software is a plus.
- Prior experience in tile, flooring, design, or home improvement sales is preferred but not required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in design, architecture, or a related field is an advantage.
