Tax Director (Hybrid)

Position Summary

The Tax Director is responsible for leading tax compliance, consulting, and wealth planning engagements for high-net-worth individuals, families, trusts, estates, family offices, and closely held businesses. This role serves as a trusted advisor to clients, providing strategic tax guidance, overseeing complex engagements, mentoring team members, and ensuring the delivery of exceptional client service.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of high-net-worth individuals, family groups, trusts, estates, private foundations, and related entities, serving as the primary relationship leader.
• Provide proactive tax planning and consulting services designed to preserve wealth, minimize tax exposure, and support long-term financial objectives.
• Review and approve complex federal, state, local, and international tax returns, ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with applicable regulations.
• Advise clients on income tax, estate and gift tax, trust taxation, wealth transfer strategies, charitable planning, business succession, and family governance matters.
• Collaborate with attorneys, investment advisors, bankers, insurance professionals, and other external advisors to coordinate comprehensive wealth management solutions.
• Lead tax research initiatives, evaluate the impact of new legislation, and communicate planning opportunities and risks to clients and internal stakeholders.
• Oversee responses to tax authority inquiries, audits, notices, and examinations.
• Manage engagement economics, including budgeting, staffing, scheduling, realization, and billing processes.
• Develop and maintain strong client relationships through regular communication and delivery of high-quality advisory services.
• Supervise, coach, and mentor managers, seniors, associates, and interns, fostering technical development and professional growth.
• Monitor project status and resource allocation to ensure all client deliverables and regulatory deadlines are met.
• Participate in business development activities, including networking, proposal development, and identification of opportunities for expanded services.
• Contribute to practice growth initiatives, process improvements, and implementation of best practices across the tax function.

Qualifications

• 7-10 years of relevant experience
• CPA required; advanced degree or additional certifications preferred.
• Significant experience serving high-net-worth individuals, trusts, estates, family offices, and privately held businesses.
• Strong technical knowledge of individual, fiduciary, estate, gift, and partnership taxation.
• Demonstrated leadership experience managing teams and complex client engagements.
• Excellent communication, relationship management, and project management skills.
