What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cheer Coach position at Tier One Gymnastics & Activity Center?
We are currently seeking a passionate and skilled Cheer Coach to join our cheerleading program. As a Child Cheer Coach, you will be responsible for coaching and guiding children in various cheerleading skills and routines while fostering a positive and supportive team environment. You will work closely with children, parents, and other coaches to deliver high-quality cheer instruction and promote teamwork, spirit, and personal growth.
Responsibilities:
Cheerleading Instruction: Teach children, typically between the ages of 5 and 12, a variety of cheerleading skills, including jumps, motions, cheers, chants, stunts, tumbling (if applicable), and dance routines.
Choreography and Routine Development: Design and create age-appropriate cheer routines, incorporating a combination of stunts, tumbling, jumps, and dance movements. Coordinate with other coaches to develop engaging and entertaining performances.
Skill Demonstration: Demonstrate proper techniques and provide clear instructions to children on how to perform cheerleading skills safely and effectively. Emphasize proper form, technique, synchronization, and teamwork.
Safety and Spotting: Prioritize safety at all times and enforce safety rules during training sessions. Be knowledgeable about spotting techniques and effectively assist children during stunt practice to ensure their safety.
Progress Evaluation: Regularly assess children's progress and skill development, providing constructive feedback and setting appropriate goals to help them improve their cheerleading abilities.
Team Building and Spirit: Foster a positive and supportive team environment, promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm. Encourage children to support and motivate their teammates, fostering a sense of unity and spirit.
Engage and Motivate: Create a positive and inclusive atmosphere where children feel motivated to learn, grow, and excel. Use positive reinforcement and motivational strategies to inspire children and build their self-confidence.
Individualized Instruction: Adapt teaching methods to suit the needs and abilities of individual children, providing personalized attention and modifications as required.
Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with parents/guardians, updating them on their child's progress, achievements, and any concerns. Provide guidance and recommendations for home practice and skill enhancement.
Class Management: Manage classes effectively, ensuring a well-structured and organized learning environment. Maintain discipline, enforce rules, and address any behavioral issues promptly and professionally.
Event Participation: Coordinate and prepare children for cheerleading performances, competitions, showcases, or other events as required by the cheerleading program.
Qualifications:
Cheerleading Expertise: Possess a strong background in cheerleading with proficiency in a wide range of cheer skills, such as jumps, motions, cheers, chants, stunts, and dance. Tumbling skills (if applicable) are a plus.
Coaching Experience: Prior experience coaching children in cheerleading, gymnastics, dance, or a related discipline. Familiarity with coaching methods, skill progressions, and routine development.
Safety Certification: Hold current certifications in First Aid and CPR. Additional certifications in cheerleading safety and spotting techniques are advantageous.
Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with children, parents, and fellow coaches. Ability to provide clear instructions, offer constructive feedback, and communicate progress and expectations.
Patience and Encouragement: Ability to work patiently with children of varying ages, skill levels, and learning styles. Encourage and motivate children to develop their cheerleading abilities, build confidence, and enjoy the sport.
Adaptability: Flexibility to modify coaching methods and approaches to accommodate individual children's needs, addressing different skill levels, physical abilities, and learning styles.
Physical Fitness: Demonstrated physical fitness and strength to perform and demonstrate cheerleading skills. Ability to lead conditioning exercises and assist children during training sessions.
Teamwork and Leadership: Experience in fostering teamwork, leadership, and a positive team environment. Ability to guide and inspire children to work together towards common goals.
Choreography Skills: Knowledge and experience in choreographing cheer routines and performances, including selecting appropriate music, formations, and transitions.
Continuous Learning: Willingness to stay updated on the latest coaching techniques, safety guidelines, and cheerleading industry developments. Attend workshops, seminars, and training programs to enhance coaching skills and knowledge.
