Role Description The Veterinary Dermatologist is a full-time, on-site role based in Palmer, AK. This role is responsible for diagnosing and treating dermatologic conditions in companion animals, including allergies, infections, autoimmune skin diseases, and parasitic infestations. Day-to-day tasks include conducting thorough dermatologic examinations, performing skin scrapings, biopsies, and other diagnostics, interpreting lab results, and developing evidence-based treatment plans. The Veterinary Dermatologist collaborates with general practitioners and other specialists, provides clear communication and education to pet owners, and maintains detailed medical records. Additional responsibilities include contributing to continuous quality improvement, participating in case discussions, and supporting a fear-free, client-centered care environment.
Qualifications

  • Strong foundation in veterinary medicine, including a DVM or equivalent degree and completion of a dermatology residency or advanced training in Dermatology.
  • Expertise in Dermatology and Acne management in companion animals, with the ability to diagnose and treat complex skin and ear conditions.
  • Skills in Cosmetic Dermatology and Cosmetology as they relate to animal skin and coat health, including safe use of topical therapies and procedures.
  • Veterinary license (or eligibility for licensure) in the state of Alaska, and board certification or board eligibility in Veterinary Dermatology preferred.
  • Excellent clinical reasoning, communication, and client education skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Commitment to patient comfort, and high standards of ethics and professionalism.
  • Experience in a specialty or busy general practice setting and familiarity with advanced diagnostic tools (e.g., dermoscopy, allergy testing) is beneficial.
