Company Overview:
Tiello has partnered with a leading AISC certified Structural Steel Erector in Florida on their search for an experienced Crane Operator to support commercial and industrial structural steel erection projects.
This company specializes in structural steel erection for commercial buildings, industrial facilities, manufacturing plants, warehouses, data centers, healthcare, and institutional projects. They have built an outstanding reputation for safety, quality, and on-time project delivery and are continuing to grow throughout the region.
The organization is seeking a safety-focused crane operator with experience handling structural steel members and working closely with ironworkers and field superintendents in active construction environments.
Role Summary:
The Crane Operator is responsible for safely operating hydraulic and crawler cranes to support the erection of structural steel and miscellaneous metals on commercial construction projects. This individual will work closely with Ironworkers, Superintendents, Signal Persons, and Project Management to safely position structural steel components while maintaining production schedules and OSHA safety requirements.
The ideal candidate is an experienced structural steel crane operator who understands erection sequencing, load charts, rigging requirements, communication protocols, and safe lifting practices.
Job Responsibilities:
- Safely operate hydraulic, crawler, rough terrain, and/or truck-mounted cranes for structural steel erection.
- Lift, position, and place structural steel beams, columns, joists, girders, decking, and miscellaneous steel components.
- Read and interpret lift plans, erection drawings, and crane load charts.
- Perform daily crane inspections and document equipment condition before operation.
- Work closely with signal persons, riggers, connectors, and ironworkers during lifting operations.
- Follow engineered lift plans and maintain compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
- Monitor crane capacities, boom configurations, swing radius, and ground conditions.
- Coordinate lifts with Project Superintendents and General Contractors to maintain project schedules.
- Assist with crane assembly, disassembly, mobilization, and demobilization as required.
- Identify potential hazards and immediately report unsafe jobsite conditions.
- Maintain clear communication with field personnel through approved hand signals and radio communication.
- Ensure equipment is maintained in proper working condition and report maintenance needs promptly.
- Support safe and efficient erection sequencing throughout all phases of construction.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- 3 years of crane operating experience in structural steel erection.
- Current NCCCO Crane Operator Certification (or equivalent nationally recognized certification).
- Class B CDL Driver License
- Experience operating hydraulic and/or crawler cranes on commercial construction projects.
- Strong understanding of structural steel erection methods and sequencing.
- Ability to read crane load charts and engineered lift plans.
- Experience working with rigging equipment, spreader bars, slings, shackles, and lifting hardware.
- Knowledge of OSHA crane regulations and safe lifting practices.
- Ability to work closely with Ironworkers, Riggers, Signal Persons, and Field Superintendents.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Willingness to travel to regional jobsites as needed.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record preferred.
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.
- Eligibility to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications:
- NCCCO Rigger and/or Signal Person Certification
- Experience erecting structural steel on mid-rise, high-rise, industrial, manufacturing, healthcare, or data center projects
- Experience operating cranes ranging from 50-ton to 300-ton capacity
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Construction Certification
- CDL Class A or B (preferred but not required)
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to climb in and out of crane cab safely.
- Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment.
- Ability to work at active construction sites with uneven terrain.
- Ability to safely perform work in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds when assisting with rigging or equipment inspections.
