Tiegerman School is a special education program servicing children with autism spectrum disorders from preschool through high school. Tiegerman School is seeking full-time Teacher Assistants to join our High School located in Richmond Hill!
Salary: $40,560 annually
Hours: 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Requirements: High School Diploma or Equivalent; Must be willing to pursue or actively working towards a NYS Teaching Assistant Certification
Responsibilities include:
- Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to plan daily goals.
- Prepare lesson materials and displays for all of the students.
- Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of teachers, using lectures, discussions, or supervised role-playing methods.
- Assist all of the children individually or in small groups in order to help them in achieving all of their goals for the completion of assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.
- Watch over the students and accompany them to classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, bathrooms, and gymnasiums.
- Distribute classroom materials to all students.
- Enforce administration policies and rules pertaining to classroom etiquette, proper dress attire for students, and Tiegerman policies and procedures.
- Assist the teacher with grading homework and tests as needed.
- Supervise students in the use and care of equipment and materials, in order to ensure the safety of the students.
- Observe and document student progress.
- Arrange and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development while allowing the students to enjoy their recreational activities.
- Participate in teacher-parent conferences on an annual basis to inform and educate parents of the progress of their children.
- Take class attendance several times a day to ensure that all students are in the appropriate area and supervised at all times.
- Assist in pick up and drop off of students at busing every day.
- Assist librarians in school libraries.
- Attend all staff meetings within and outside of regular working hours
- Provide students with assistive devices.
- Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality, and attendance.
Minimum Required Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
