Job Purpose

The Radiologic Technologist is responsible for producing quality diagnostic radiographs with a high degree of proficiency.


Tasks

  • Review and evaluate developed computer-generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
  • Operate or oversee operation of radiologic imaging equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes.
  • Use radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with government regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff.
  • Position imaging equipment and adjust controls to set exposure time and distance, according to specification of examination.
  • Explain procedures and observe patients to ensure safety and comfort during scan.
  • Position patient on examining table.
  • Maintain examination rooms, ensuring that all necessary equipment is clean and ready.
  • Monitor patients' conditions and reactions, reporting abnormal signs to physician.
  • Record, process, and maintain patient data or treatment records.
  • Monitor video display of area being scanned and adjust density or contrast to improve picture quality.
  • Coordinate work with clinical personnel or other technologists.
  • Aid in dressing or changing seriously ill, injured, or disabled patients.
  • Participate in the instruction and evaluation of, and work with Radiologic Technology students.
  • Communicating with supervisors, peers, or subordinates.
  • Performing for or working directly with the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 


Physical Demands

Frequently standing, walking, and sitting. Ability to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, talk or hear. Ability to pull, lift, carry, and push greater than 150lbs repetitively. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus. 


Education and Experience

  • Years of Experience: 1 year experience in general radiology preferred
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology
  • License, Certificate or Registration: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Additional Information: RT Virginia State License BLS Certification
