The college had 3,399 graduates in 2024-2025, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Tidewater Community College’s Workforce Solutions Department seeks an experienced Nurse Aide Instructor to lead a hands-on Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) exam–preparation course. This position is an adjunct instructor position in the college’s non-credit program under Workforce Solutions. This program includes both continuing education for professional development and industry recognized credential attainment, which will be offered synchronously, at TCC campuses and other convenient locations throughout the community. The Nurse Aide instructor teaches and trains students in classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings to prepare them for certification and careers as certified nursing assistants (CNAs). Nurse Aide instructors are responsible for teaching theoretical concepts, medical terminology, and basic nursing skills through lectures, multimedia presentations, and demonstrations.
Functional Responsibilities:
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Demonstrated competency in a relevant health care or professional services field.
- Ability to design and or implement lesson plans that align learning objectives with student outcomes.
- Ability to develop and adapt teaching and learning strategies to accommodate the diversity of community college students to promote acquisition and application of knowledge.
- Completion of the Train‑the‑Trainer course is required if the RN or LPN does not already have documented experience as an adult educator, per VABON requirements for Nurse Aide training.
- Excellent communication (orally and written) and organizational skills.
- Must hold an active, unrestricted registered nurse (RN) license with a minimum of two years of nursing experience, including at least one year in long-term care.
- Ability to communicate effectively in an electronic format.
- Teaching experience at the college level.
- Knowledge of CANVAS or other learning management systems.
- Knowledge of, and experience with, proven teaching strategies that promote student success.
- Candidate should possess sufficient technology skills to work productively in an organization that utilizes significant information and instructional technology resources.
- Advanced degree or related certifications
