What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Accounting position at Tide Rock?
The Accounting Director will play a critical leadership role in Tide Rock’s finance organization, with oversight of accounting functions across Tide Rock and its subsidiaries. This position is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting, treasury/cash flow management, compliance, and continuous process improvement. The ideal candidate will provide strategic direction/manage junior members of the accounting team and will partner with portfolio company controllers to strengthen financial operations across the enterprise.
Job Responsibilities:
Financial Leadership & Oversight:
- Own the success of your portfolio company by monitoring and reviewing financial statements on a monthly basis
- Provide functional oversight to portfolio company controllers, ensuring consistent application of GAAP, accounting policies, and close timelines across the portfolio.
- Establish and enforce standardized financial reporting packages, close calendars, and key control checklists for all portfolio companies.
- Review portfolio company financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, and key judgments for accuracy, completeness, and consistency prior to consolidation.
- Serve as escalation point for complex accounting matters, including revenue recognition, debt accounting, equity transactions, and intercompany activity.
- Ensure the integrity of the general ledger and adherence to GAAP.
Audit, Tax, & Compliance
- Design and oversee internal control frameworks across portfolio companies, identifying and remediating control gaps as needed.
- Ensure portfolio companies comply with lender reporting, audit requirements, and financial covenants.
- Coordinate portfolio-wide accounting policy updates in response to new accounting standards or regulatory changes.
- Oversee state and federal tax compliance performed by Tide Rock’s tax consultants, including purchase accounting-related items, PTE, franchise, and purchase price allocation work.
Operational Reporting & Investor Relations
- Prepare financial reporting packages for management, investors, and banking partners.
- Support ad-hoc financial analysis and investor reporting requests.
- Assist with system implementation and other enhancements, as needed.
Leadership & Process Improvement
- Mentor and train junior accounting team members and portfolio company finance staff.
- Develop, document, and enhance back-office accounting procedures to increase efficiency and standardization.
- Build strong relationships with portfolio company accounting teams, providing oversight and guidance to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to improve financial transparency and data-driven decision-making.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support the integration of newly acquired portfolio companies, including accounting setup, capital infusion, and closing processes.
- Lead special projects and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Expert knowledge of daily accounting processes and requirements in accordance with US GAAP.
- Expertise in management principles involved in strategic planning and forecasting including people, material, and equipment resource allocation; corporate and human resource benefits; leadership and teaming; and production methods.
- Excellent computer skills including a high degree of skill in Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience in managing end-to-end ERP processes and reporting.
- Skill and ability to collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize findings; and develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate data sources.
- Consider the costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate course of action.
- Proactive communicator who can clearly articulate results and needs across all levels of the business, including executive leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance
- 8 years of experience in accounting or finance function, ideally with at least 2 in a leadership role.
- CPA preferred
