Ticknology is a start-up laboratory in Fort Collins, Colorado focused on national tick testing services. We are looking for a detail-oriented, reliable person to support day-to-day laboratory and office workflows during our busy summer and fall season.
This position is a good fit for students or early-career applicants who already have molecular laboratory experience and want additional hands-on experience in a fast-paced applied laboratory environment.
Position Summary
The Part-Time Lab Assistant will support specimen documentation, basic molecular lab workflows, administrative tasks, and general laboratory organization. This role requires strong attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to follow written laboratory procedures and safety protocols.
Responsibilities
Specimen Handling and Documentation
Organize insect and tick specimens received by mail
Photograph specimens for identification and testing records
Label and track specimens according to internal procedures
Maintain careful documentation to support accurate turnaround
Molecular Lab Support
Assist with basic molecular laboratory workflows under supervision
Use proper sterile technique to reduce contamination risk
Perform accurate pipetting and basic sample handling
Help prepare, label, stock, and organize laboratory supplies
Follow BSL-2 level safety practices and laboratory procedures
Maintain a clean and organized laboratory workspace
Administrative Support
Perform accurate data entry
Update customer accounts and specimen records
Help maintain organized office and lab records
Team Communication
Communicate clearly with staff about specimen status, workflow needs, and task completion
Help keep testing turnaround fast, accurate, and organized
Work collaboratively in a small laboratory team environment
Skill Development
Learn internal workflows using Excel and our custom database
Gain exposure to WordPress/customer order workflows
Continue developing sterile technique, pipetting accuracy, and molecular lab workflow skills
Qualifications
Minimum 1 year of molecular laboratory experience required
Experience with sterile technique and accurate pipetting required
Strong attention to detail
Reliable, punctual, and able to follow written procedures carefully
Comfortable working with insect/tick specimens
Basic computer skills required
Must be able to work on-site in Fort Collins, CO
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in biology, microbiology, molecular biology, biomedical sciences, entomology, veterinary science, public health, or a related field
Experience with data entry, Excel, or laboratory recordkeeping
Hours and Schedule
This is a part-time position for summer and fall. Flexible on-site hours are available, but some Saturday availability is requested. Exact hours may vary based on workload and seasonal testing volume.
Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
