POSITION SUMMARY
The Ophthalmic Technician generates important preliminary information to be used by the ophthalmologist, orthoptist or optometrist; reviews patient status and performs medical tests. Supports the Mission, Vision, and Values of Ticho Eye Associates.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

  • Reviews patient chart to ensure completeness and accuracy of information. Performs testing required by type of exam scheduled, patient complaint and history.
  • Acts as scribe while physician examines patient entering data into electronic medical records or handwrites in paper chart, oversees patient flow.
  • Is able to take an ocular and systemic history and accurately record visual acuity. Is able to perform lensometry, refractometry, tonometry, basic muscle balance testing, assess pupils, assess the anterior chamber, performs diagnostic tests, including, but not limited to: OCT, HVF, Topography, IOL measurements, confrontation visual fields and gross external exam.
  • Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
  • Assists with in-office procedures ensuring proper informed consent is obtained, sets up and cleans up from procedures.
  • Maintains and operates ophthalmic equipment as needed
  • Assists in the performance of advanced ophthalmic procedures.
  • Assists in training of other ophthalmic assistants.
  • Assists with patient education.
  • Answer patient phone calls and directs them to the correct provider when indicated.
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of exam rooms during the work day.
  • Complies with all practice procedures and protocols. Complies with all State and Federal regulations. Understands and accepts responsibility to report potential or suspected errors to supervisor or Compliance Officer.
  • Maintains positive attitude consisting of cooperation, self-motivation, courtesy, and professionalism.
  • Willing to be cross trained as practice needs evolve.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
Experience: Two years of ophthalmic technician experience

Computer Skills
Good computer skills. Able to navigate between screens: able to accurately enter data.

Certificates & Licenses
None required. Certification through JCAHPO must be completed one year after hire.'
