Job Title: Head Coach, Recreational Swim Team, Tiburon Swim Academy

Reports To: Operations Manager / Director of Operations

Location: Waltham, MA

Position Summary:

The Head Coach, Recreational Swim Team is responsible for the leadership, organization, and daily management of Tiburon Swim Academy’s recreational swim team programming, including the BGC swim team and participation in appropriate off-season leagues. This role supports swimmer development, parent communication, league coordination, higher-level swimmer oversight, and selected lesson instruction while helping maintain a positive, structured, and high-quality experience for swimmers and families.

The Head Coach is expected to represent Tiburon Swim Academy in a professional manner, support the academy’s standards on deck, communicate effectively with families and staff, and contribute to the success of the overall program.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership and Program Oversight

  • Lead and maintain Tiburon Swim Academy’s recreational swim team program, including the BGC swim team.
  • Organize and oversee team practices, swimmer groupings, and seasonal development plans.
  • Maintain a positive, structured, and motivating environment for swimmers and families.
  • Support consistent instructional quality and uphold Tiburon Swim Academy standards.

Swimmer Development

  • Coach swimmers during team practices and provide feedback to support skill development and progression.
  • Oversee higher-level swimmers outside of the recreational swim team structure
  • Assess swimmer readiness for advancement, additional support, or other development opportunities.
  • Provide technical instruction, correction, and encouragement appropriate to each swimmer’s level.

Parent and League Communication

  • Communicate with parents regarding schedules, team expectations, swimmer progress, and meet participation.
  • Serve as a point of contact for league-related communication and team coordination.
  • Respond professionally to parent questions, concerns, and team-related issues.
  • Maintain clear and timely communication with management regarding team needs or concerns.

Meets and Off-Season Participation

  • Coordinate and support swim meet participation, including entries, communication, and on-deck oversight.
  • Help identify and manage participation in appropriate off-season leagues or team opportunities.
  • Represent Tiburon Swim Academy professionally during meets, league interactions, and team events.

Lessons and Additional Coaching Duties

  • Teach select swim lessons, clinics, or supplemental sessions outside of team practice as needed.
  • Support swimmers outside of team hours when assigned through lessons, clinics, or advanced coaching.
  • Assist with other coaching-related duties that support program needs.

Safety and Operations

  • Maintain a safe and organized environment during practices, lessons, meets, and team activities.
  • Follow all pool safety rules, emergency procedures, and supervisory expectations.
  • Report safety concerns, incidents, or operational issues to management promptly.
  • Support smooth daily operations on deck and contribute to a professional team environment.

Qualifications:

  • Previous swim coaching experience required.
  • Team leadership, supervisory, or program management experience preferred.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with swimmers of different ages, abilities, and personalities.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with parents, swimmers, staff, and league representatives.
  • CPR, First Aid, AED, and/or Lifeguard certifications preferred or required based on role expectations.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to remain active on the pool deck for extended periods.
  • Ability to demonstrate swim skills and assist in the water when needed.
  • Ability to lift, carry, or move equipment as needed.
  • Comfortable working in hot, humid, wet, or fast-paced pool environments.

Work Schedule

This role requires availability based on program needs. Saturdays are considered a standard workday for this position. Sunday availability may be required for meets, league events, or other team responsibilities. Additional weekday afternoon and evening availability may also be required.

Please note: These duties can change based on the changing needs of the department and organization.

Pay: From $58,240.00 per year
