About the Role
We're seeking a
Senior Java Developer
to join our team supporting critical modernization and transformation initiatives for the
Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
. In this role, you'll contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of secure, scalable, and high-performing enterprise applications that improve the efficiency and reliability of IRS systems.
You'll work alongside cross-functional teams—including business analysts, architects, DevOps engineers, and QA specialists—to deliver high-quality software solutions aligned with federal standards and best practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and deploy
Java-based enterprise applications
using modern frameworks and tools. - Implement
RESTful APIs, microservices, and integration layers
to support system interoperability. - Contribute to
software architecture, design reviews, and code optimization
for performance and scalability. - Work in
Agile/Scrum
environments, participating in sprint planning, code reviews, and daily stand-ups. - Ensure adherence to
security, compliance, and accessibility standards
required for federal systems. - Collaborate with stakeholders to
translate business needs into technical requirements
and solutions. - Support continuous integration and deployment (
CI/CD
) pipelines and modern DevSecOps practices. - Troubleshoot complex technical issues and provide mentorship to junior developers.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Must be located in the DMV area and willing to commute to office 1-2 days per week.
- 7 years of hands-on experience
in Java/J2EE development. - Strong proficiency with
Spring Framework (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security)
. - Experience with
RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes)
. - Solid understanding of
object-oriented design, design patterns, and software engineering principles
. - Experience with
SQL and relational databases
(PostgreSQL, Oracle, or MySQL). - Familiarity with
DevOps tools
such as Jenkins, Git, Maven, and SonarQube. - Knowledge of
Agile development methodologies
and working in cross-functional teams. - U.S. Citizenship required (due to federal contract requirements).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting
IRS, Treasury, or other federal agencies
. - Knowledge of
AWS cloud services
and
infrastructure automation
tools (Terraform, Ansible). - Understanding of
security frameworks and compliance requirements
(FISMA, NIST, FedRAMP). - Exposure to
front-end technologies
such as Angular, React, or TypeScript. - Experience working with
API gateways, message queues (Kafka, ActiveMQ)
, or event-driven systems.

Compensation:
$120,000-$150,000 annually, plus benefits, including medical/dental/vision coverage, PTO and a partial 401k match.
