Family Nurse Practitioner Fellowship - Nurse Practitioner

General Responsibilities:
 

The faculty nurse practitioner is responsible for providing primary medical care, within the limits of the training of a nurse practitioner, to assigned patients. The nurse practitioner is a licensed, autonomous provider executing professional clinical judgment in the care of Thundermist patients, according to the guidelines, policies and procedures set forth by Thundermist Health Center. The Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Fellowship program is an accredited program through the Consortium for Advanced Practice Providers to provide recent NP graduates with on-the-job training to gain confidence and competence to start a successful career. The fellowship consists of three core elements: precepted clinic, didactics, and specialty rotations. Fellows are precepted through the primary care experience by expert MDs and NPs that are fully dedicated to their training and patient panels. Fellows also participate in weekly post-graduate didactics sessions which are CME approved and focus on case studies observed in clinic. Fellows participate in a weekly specialty rotation to expand the breadth of the knowledge that they bring back to primary care. Other general responsibilities include participating in clinical quality meetings, submitting journal entries and program evaluations, participating in pharmacy consult meetings and other program related meetings.  

Required Qualifications:
1. RI RN and NPP Licensure
2. ANA Certification in the specialty of practice (family medicine, internal medicine, women’s health, or pediatrics)
3. Ongoing CEU to update skills/therapies
 
 
Internal: Frequency:
1. Patients Daily
2. Medical Staff Daily
3. Social Workers Daily
4. Administrative Staff Periodically
 

Physical Effort/Environment:
Moderate physical activity: walking, standing, and stooping. Potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens, respiratory disease, and other infectious diseases, and other biohazards material requiring universal standard precautions for medical practitioners. Manual dexterity needed for certain medical procedures. Clinical environment in ambulatory based settings and home-based care.
  
Communication Skills:
Exceptional oral and written skills needed. Proficient in all applicable medical
terminology. Bilingual capacity in Spanish or Laotian is a plus. Good interpersonal skills
are needed.

Thundermist is dedicated in securing the privacy and confidentiality of protected health information under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. The incumbent must apply strict confidentiality.

 
Significant Job Functions:

Clinical:
1. Patient care – history, physical exam, anticipatory education/guidance in pediatrics, management of acute and chronic illness
2. Maintenance of complete/accurate patient records
3. Accountable for patient care provided and supervision of nurse practitioner students assigned
 

Administrative:
1. Peer chart review on rotating basis
2. Participation in departmental, and team meetings.
