What are the responsibilities and job description for the Videographer & Editor position at Thumper Studio?
At Thumper Studio, we do a lot of things. Video is what we do best. We are a two-person agency and we have more work than hands. That's a good problem. This hire is how we solve it.
The Role
We are hiring a Shooter-Editor. This is not a shooter role with light editing. This is not an editor role with occasional field work. This is both. Equally. Every time. If you can only do one of these things well, this is not your job.
You will shoot on location with us. You will edit that footage. You will do both at a high level and you will do it fast.
What You Will Do
Shoot on location across a range of industries and environments. Record and manage clean location audio. Travel for production, sometimes with short notice. Sit down in the edit immediately after shoot days and deliver polished, story-driven content. Work directly with the founders on every project.
Equipment and Tools
This is what you will be operating. Familiarity is required.
Video: Sony FX6 and FX3, including both vertical and horizontal rigs. DJI Ronin gimbals.
Audio: Rode lav mics. MixPre 6. NTG5.
Lighting: On run and gun shoots, we keep the light kit in the truck and move. When the job calls for it, we pull the full kit and run a complete 3-point system. Diffusion, negative fill, everything needed to make it look right.
Editing: Adobe Premiere. This is non-negotiable. We work off the same system so we can trade files, build a workflow, and move fast together.
What We're Looking For
You have real experience on both sides of this job. You have shot branded or commercial content on cinema cameras. You understand light, movement, and story. You can operate a drone on a job site. You can pull clean audio in a difficult environment. You can handle a long shoot day and keep your head in it.
Beyond the technical skills, two things matter most here. You get-shit-done fast. And you give-a-shit fully. Both. Every project. No exceptions.
You are based in Buffalo or Rochester, NY.
Compensation
We are open to full-time, part-time, or freelance depending on experience and fit. Compensation is based on the arrangement and what you bring to the table. We are not posting a number because the right conversation matters more than a range.
To Apply
Send your reel and a short note to brady@thumper.studio.
Tell us what you shoot on and why this is your kind of work. That's it.
