What are the responsibilities and job description for the Full Time Private Teacher position at Thrive Tutoring?

Private Family Hiring an Early Childhood/Elementary Educator

Location: College Grove, TN

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 or 3:00 p.m. daily (core instruction from 9-12, plus enrichment and activities in the afternoons). The family is open to extending the day to 4:00 or 5:00 p.m. if the candidate prefers a longer position.

Compensation: $45,000–$55,000 annually, based on experience

Start Date: ASAP (ideally starting after Labor Day)

Commitment: Starting with a 1-year commitment, with a strong preference for someone who can grow with the family long term. The teacher will also have the opportunity to collaborate with a neighborhood pod of other educators to plan group activities and share resources.

Thrive Tutoring is seeking a warm, experienced, and engaging early childhood/elementary educator to homeschool three children: a rising 2nd grader, a rising 1st grader, and a 3-year-old preschooler in a private family setting. This family highly values an active, outdoor lifestyle and hands-on learning experiences. The children love crafts, projects, and creative activities, and the family would love a teacher who can develop imaginative lesson plans that include monthly themes and project-based learning.

Most importantly, the family values structure and organization. They seek an educator who can confidently lead and create a well-rounded, detailed weekly plan that addresses the needs of all three children. Both mom and dad are actively involved and enthusiastic about joining various activities and celebrations—like hosting a pool party at the pool house when all the kids reach their goals for the week. The family’s approach is well-rounded and structured, woven naturally with Christian values and Biblical lessons.

The role offers a unique opportunity to utilize incredible neighborhood amenities—including a fully stocked school building with a library, classroom materials, and two full-time teaching assistants—to enrich the children’s school day. The neighborhood features professionally staffed sports fields and equipment, including tennis, golf, basketball, pickleball, kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing, baseball, archery, and more. The family also enjoys a beautiful resort-style pool perfect for swimming afternoons, as well as gardening and outdoor exploration spaces to complement the educational experience.

The family employs an au pair who provides occasional support, and all neighborhood campus sites are staffed with other adults to assist each day during instruction and activities.

Instructional Calendar & Time Off

  • Instruction is delivered for approximately 34–36 weeks per year
  • The family observes holiday breaks and a summer break
  • The family travels occasionally, and some flexibility is expected during travel periods
  • Paid Time Off (PTO) is negotiable and can be discussed during the hiring process

Responsibilities

  • Lead academic instruction and activities from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 or 3:00 p.m. daily, with flexibility to extend to 4:00 or 5:00 p.m. if preferred

  • Facilitate enrichment activities and experiential learning in the afternoons, leveraging neighborhood resources such as sports fields, the resort-style pool, gardening areas, and the schoolhouse environment
  • Utilize multi-sensory, play-based, and hands-on learning strategies to support early literacy and numeracy
  • Foster a nurturing, structured, and creative learning environment that encourages curiosity, critical thinking, and moral growth
  • Integrate social-emotional learning and character development grounded in Christian values
  • Collaborate with two full-time teaching assistants to maximize individualized instruction and support
  • Participate in the neighborhood pod, collaborating with other educators on group activities and shared planning
  • Prepare materials, track progress, and provide regular updates to parents, encouraging their involvement in celebrations and activities
  • Communicate regularly with parents to align on goals, progress, and upcoming events
