Overview
Thrive Education Partners is seeking an exceptional full-time Private Teacher to work 1:1 with one, bright and capable student. This professional educator will work with the 9th grade learner in a personalized homeschool environment that blends academic excellence and with hands-on experiential learning.
The family resides in Apex, NC outside of Raleigh in a suburban, residential neighborhood.
The ideal candidate is an experienced and proven educator who has the ability to teach learners with severe ADHD. This professional should be warm, caring, kind and pleasant to work with while also maintaining structure and boundaries. This is a role for a teacher who can quickly determine learning gaps and work with the student to fill them. This student has been successful in settings with 1:1 attention, frequent breaks, efficient use of time and lessons that highlight real-life application. The family is looking for a true expert who is passionate, patient, and inspiring while also firm and structured. The student is especially interested in aviation and hockey.
About the Student
- Grade: 9 (he will have completed 4 high school courses prior to beginning with homeschool)
- Academics: The student has some learning gaps due to lack of engagement and attention. Enjoys computer and technology concepts like coding. The student lacks confidence in his abilities and often shuts-down when made to feel less-than. Prior school experiences led to weakened academic performance, stamina, motivation and general beliefs about himself as a learner.
- Learning Needs: Foundational assessments will be needed to determine exact gaps in learning in most core subject areas (specifically math, writing, and science). The student will need support through tools and strategies to cope with ADHD including frequent breaks, a schedule that is broken into short chunks of time and lots of redirection/refocus from the teacher. Multi-sensory methods will be important.
- Personality: Typical teenager who enjoys time with friends, loves all things hockey and has a keen interest in aviation. He is pleasant, compliant and polite. With the proper attention and tailored curriculum, he will work hard to perform well.
Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging, focused instruction across core subjects (Math, Literature, Writing, Science, History, etc ) tailored to student’s current ability level and interests following NC state standards for the remainder of grade 9 and quickly working to accelerate to the next grade level.
- Implement and adapt an individualized curriculum plan that integrates subject area teachings and real-world learning experiences with focus on bridging the current learning gaps and strengthening areas of foundational weakness.
- Lead, facilitate or guide daily “elective” experiences such as physical movement/weightlifting, STEM, coding or other interests. Specific subject mastery is not required but any relevant experience is a plus (coding experience, aviation knowledge, science background, etc)
- Incorporate project-based and experiential learning through corporate partnerships and utilizing community resources
- Maintain strong structure, systems, and routines that promote independence and accountability
- Track academic progress through ongoing assessment and share results with parents and consultant (if applicable)
- Collaborate with the educational consultant (if applicable) to refine curriculum, set goals, and ensure continued academic challenge
- Communicate proactively with parents, providing updates, feedback, and recommendations
- Manage academic logistics (materials, lesson plans, scheduling, and records)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or Secondary Education or a related field (multiple degrees preferred). Master’s degree preferred but not required
- Expertise in NC high school curriculum standards and experience with a variety of teaching resources including online
- Minimum 4 years of classroom or private teaching experience
- Proven ability to work with ADHD learners
- Skilled in differentiated instruction and individualized curriculum design
- Exceptional communication, organization, and leadership skills
- High degree of professionalism, discretion, and integrity
- Must successfully pass a background check and sign an NDA prior to employment
Schedule
- Approximately 8:00 AM – 2:00 PM, 5 days per week (but exact schedule is somewhat flexible and open for discussion)
- Additional planning and communication time as needed
- Flexibility in schedule as needed/prior communication and approval required.
