About Thrive Learning Academy:
Thrive Learning Academy is a newly established quaint, relationship-centered nonpublic school in Washington, D.C., with a maximum capacity of 40 scholars. We serve students ages 5–21 with learning, emotional, intellectual, and developmental disabilities—including autism.
We operate a year-round academic program with 210 instructional days, half-day Fridays, and intermittent breaks, allowing for ongoing academic growth and continuity of care for our students.
Our founding team brings over 20 years of experience in special education, and we are eager to combine our expertise to create one of the most effective and supportive learning environments in the District of Columbia.
Role Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and dependable Assistant Teacher to support classroom instruction and student development. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in an Assistant Teacher role and a strong ability to work collaboratively with lead teachers to create a positive and structured learning environment.
Candidates with Paraprofessional Certification are preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Lead Teacher in delivering daily lesson plans and classroom activities
- Assist with classroom management and maintaining a structured learning environment
- Provide individual and small group support to students as needed
- Reinforce instructional material and help students stay engaged and on task
- Monitor student behavior and assist with implementing behavior management strategies
- Assist with classroom setup, organization, and materials preparation
- Supervise students during transitions, lunch, recess, and other activities
- Maintain a safe, clean, and inclusive classroom environment
- Communicate effectively with teachers, staff, and administration
Qualifications
- Minimum 2 year experience as an Assistant Teacher or similar role required
- Paraprofessional Certification preferred
- High school diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field preferred
- Experience working with children in a classroom or educational setting
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to follow direction and work collaboratively as part of a team
