Medical Billing and Coding Specialist

Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our healthcare team. Responsibilities

• Assign appropriate ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT, and DRG codes to medical diagnoses and procedures in accordance with current coding standards and guidelines
• Review medical records thoroughly to ensure complete documentation for accurate coding and billing
• Prepare and submit insurance claims for third-party payers, including health insurance companies, Medicare, and Medicaid, ensuring timely processing
• Manage electronic health record (EHR) systems and electronic medical record (EMR) systems for billing and coding purposes
• Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies to maximize revenue recovery
• Maintain detailed records of billing activities, coding updates, and insurance correspondence in compliance with healthcare regulations
• Stay current with changes in medical coding guidelines, including updates related to ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT coding, and DRG classifications

Experience

• Proven experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting or medical office environment
• Strong knowledge of health insurance claim processing, revenue cycle management, and third-party billing procedures
• Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems used for billing and coding functions
• In-depth understanding of medical terminology, medical records management, and coding guidelines for inpatient and outpatient services
• Experience working with ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), CPT coding, DRG classifications, and health insurance policies
• Ability to interpret complex medical documentation accurately while adhering to industry standards for coding accuracy
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail to ensure precise data entry and compliance
