Recreational Therapist - FT

Thrive Behavioral Hospital is seeking a compassionate and skilled Full-Time Recreational Therapist to join our interdisciplinary treatment team. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating therapeutic activity services for patients across adolescent and adult populations in an acute inpatient setting. This role will play a key role in helping patients achieve their highest level of independent functioning through structured recreational therapy.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver recreational therapy services aligned with individualized treatment plans.
• Assess psychosocial, leisure, and recreational skill development needs.
• Document patient progress and therapeutic interventions accurately and timely.
• Apply crisis intervention techniques when necessary.
• Maintain therapeutic spaces and equipment in a safe and orderly condition.
• Facilitate group therapy sessions and monitor sports activities.
• Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of medical records.
• Provide exceptional customer service in all patient and staff interactions.

Qualifications

Education & Certification:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Therapy or a related therapeutic discipline.
• Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) required.
• Eligible for licensure/certification by NCTRC.

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of behavioral healthcare techniques.
• Ability to prioritize and manage workloads effectively.
• Skilled in documentation and multidisciplinary coordination.
• Alertness to safety risks and ability to respond appropriately

Additional Requirements:

• Current CPR certification.
• Annual professional skills verification.
• Handle With Care (psychiatric crisis management) certification – training and certification provided by Thrive Behavioral Hospital
