Position Summary:
The Behavioral Health Verification of Benefits (VOB) Representative is responsible for completing insurance benefit verifications in a timely and accurate manner for clients seeking behavioral health and substance abuse treatment services. This role requires frequent communication with insurance providers and clients, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple requests with efficiency and professionalism.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, communicates clearly in writing and verbally, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Complete verification of benefits (VOB) checks accurately and within established timeframes
- Contact insurance providers by phone to verify coverage, eligibility, and authorization requirements
- Utilize insurance portals and online systems to obtain benefit information
- Document benefit details clearly and accurately in internal systems
- Communicate benefits, coverage limitations, and financial responsibilities to clients
- Respond promptly and professionally to client questions, concerns, and requests
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations at all times
- Collaborate with admissions, billing, and clinical teams as needed
- Track and follow up on pending verifications and outstanding requests
- Identify and escalate discrepancies or coverage issues when appropriate
- Maintain organized records and audit-ready documentation
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred
- Prior experience in healthcare, insurance verification, medical billing, or behavioral health pis referred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Professional phone etiquette and customer service skills
- Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Ability to handle a high volume of verifications and deadlines
- Proficiency with email, spreadsheets, and electronic systems
- Ability to learn insurance terminology and benefit structures quickly
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with behavioral health or substance abuse treatment facilities
- Familiarity with Medicaid, commercial insurance plans, and managed care organizations (MCOs)
- Knowledge of CPT codes, authorization requirements, and benefit limitations
- Experience using electronic health records (EHR) or billing software
- Bilingual skills are a plus
