Senior Accountant – Three Openings

Location: Urbandale, IA
Work Arrangement: Hybrid – approximately six scheduled onsite days per month

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to serve as a key resource within the accounting operations team. This is a highly visible, senior individual-contributor role for someone who is detail-oriented, communicative, and comfortable taking ownership of complex accounting projects from start to finish.

The Senior Accountant will work closely with the supervisor and serve as a go-to resource for projects, system-related activities, process improvements, and team support. This is not a formal people-management position, but the individual will help provide training, guidance, and accounting knowledge to other team members during an upcoming transition.

Key Responsibilities

• Independently manage accounting responsibilities, priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.

• Own accounting and finance projects from initial planning through completion.

• Serve as a key resource to the supervisor for special projects, process changes, and operational activities.

• Perform detailed accounting analysis and ensure work is accurate, complete, and properly supported.

• Investigate complex issues involving multiple systems, processes, or departments.

• Identify root causes, risks, dependencies, and appropriate solutions.

• Work across systems to review, reconcile, validate, and communicate financial information.

• Provide frequent updates and clearly explain accounting information to managers, colleagues, and business partners.

• Coordinate with internal departments, external stakeholders, customers, and vendors as needed.

• Identify opportunities to simplify work, reduce manual steps, and improve accounting workflows.

• Help standardize accounting processes and procedures across teams.

• Support transition activities by documenting processes and sharing knowledge with colleagues.

• Provide training and guidance to peers and less-experienced team members.

• Use available technology, including artificial intelligence tools, to support work simplification and efficiency.

• Maintain strong attention to detail while managing multiple projects and deadlines.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

• At least five years of accounting or finance experience.

• Strong technical accounting knowledge.

• Experience managing projects within an accounting or finance environment.

• Experience working across multiple systems and understanding how information moves from one system to another.

• Ability to take ownership of projects and drive them from start to finish.

• Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to communicate frequently and effectively with multiple stakeholders.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate work.

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Strong organizational and time-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting accounting system transitions or integrations.

• Experience improving accounting processes, workflows, or controls.

• Experience documenting procedures and developing training materials.

• Experience training or serving as a resource for other accounting professionals.

• Familiarity with artificial intelligence tools used to simplify work or improve efficiency.

• Experience working with cross-functional or global teams.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a dependable, highly engaged accounting professional who communicates openly and takes ownership of their work. They can manage detailed accounting responsibilities while also seeing the larger operational picture. They are comfortable serving as the supervisor’s right hand, driving projects forward, supporting system or process changes, and helping colleagues understand new procedures.

Schedule and Hybrid Expectations

This is a flexible daytime position requiring at least eight working hours per day, with a 30-minute to one-hour lunch. Regular evening and weekend work is not expected.

The hybrid schedule alternates between one onsite day one week and two onsite days the following week, averaging approximately six onsite days per month. Onsite days are scheduled for the team and cannot be individually selected.

Interview Process

The interview process is expected to include two rounds. The first interview will preferably be conducted onsite with a manager, followed by an interview with an additional manager or panel.
