Accountant – Accounting Operations & Process Improvement

Location: Urbandale, IA
Employment Type: Six-month contract with potential for permanent hire
Work Arrangement: Hybrid—approximately six scheduled onsite days per month, alternating between one and two days per week
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with a one-hour lunch
Target Start: October 2026

About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced accounting professional who enjoys researching discrepancies, resolving issues, and finding better ways to get work done. You’ll take ownership of accounting processes and projects, work with colleagues across departments, and help improve accuracy and efficiency.

This is a hands-on individual contributor position. You’ll have the opportunity to recommend improvements, help implement changes, and share your knowledge with teammates.

What You’ll Do

• Take ownership of assigned accounting processes, priorities, and deadlines.
• Research accounting discrepancies, review supporting information, and follow issues through to resolution.
• Analyze financial and operational information to identify errors, recurring problems, and opportunities for improvement.
• Work with other departments to resolve issues affecting multiple processes or teams.
• Manage accounting projects, establish milestones, and communicate progress.
• Recommend practical ways to reduce manual work and improve accuracy.
• Help implement process changes and document clear procedures.
• Respond to questions from internal teams and external customers or vendors, as needed.
• Provide training and guidance to peers and less-experienced colleagues.

What You’ll Need

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• At least five years of accounting or finance experience.
• Experience in accounting operations, finance operations, or a similar transaction-processing environment.
• Strong analytical skills and experience researching and resolving discrepancies.
• Ability to manage your work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and comfort working across departments.
