What are the responsibilities and job description for the Farm Crew Member (FT, Seasonal) position at Three Creeks Produce?
About Three Creeks Produce
Three Creeks Produce is a certified organic farm near Columbus, Ohio, growing a diverse mix of vegetables, herbs, and fruit for restaurants, institutions, specialty grocers, and a multi-season CSA.
We’re seeking a full-time, seasonal Farm Crew Member to join our team from May through late November.
The Position
A Farm Crew Member is a critical generalist role that participates fully and collaboratively in all day-to-day operations of the farm (planting, weeding, harvesting, processing, packing, etc.). This is active, fast-paced work. A good fit for someone who can move efficiently, stay focused, and keep up with a small, hardworking team!
This position reports to the farm owners and regularly interfaces with other crew members. We expect this position to be 35-40 hrs a week, though natural fluctuations based on weather, timing, and production needs may occur. This position is seasonal, beginning in early April and concluding by apx late November. Successful seasonal employees are given first priority if we have a vacancy in our year-round positions.
Duties of all team members include (but are not limited to):
- Harvesting, washing, and packaging vegetables for sale
- Seeding, transplanting, and cultivating crops
- Field-related tasks such as bed preparation, weeding, irrigation, and applying inputs
- General farm upkeep, maintenance, and improvement of farm property, facilities, and equipment
- Operating farm tools and machinery safely and effectively
- Adhering to established farm standards for quality, efficiency, food safety, and documentation
- Performing all of the above in all types of weather conditions and in accordance with organic certification and food safety requirements
While not a must, a year or more of positive experience with commercial agricultural or horticultural production would be a very good indication of necessary qualifications below. Special consideration will be given to applicants with prior experience in organic vegetable production.
If you haven’t worked on a farm before, some sort of outdoor, physical job would be a good equivalent, as would strong experience in fast-paced food service. If your work history/resume does not reflect a background in agriculture or horticulture, candidates should submit a cover letter or email indicating their desire and preparation to work in this field. Without this supplemental information, an application is likely to be rejected.
