The Role
An Accounting Clerk supports a company's finance department by managing daily financial tasks, ensuring accurate records, processing transactions (like invoices, payments, and expenses), reconciling accounts, and preparing basic financial reports, often using accounting software to maintain ledgers, process data, and assist with audits. They handle accounts payable, accounts receivable, and administrative duties, requiring strong detail orientation, math skills, and integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Data Entry & Processing: Entering financial data, processing invoices, purchase orders, and expense reports.
- Accounts Payable/Receivable: Managing vendor payments, customer billing, and tracking transactions.
- Reconciliation: Reconciling bank statements, ledgers, and resolving discrepancies.
- Record Keeping: Maintaining organized financial files (digital & physical) and updating accounting databases.
- Reporting: Generating basic financial reports and assisting with audits.
- Administrative Support: Handling mail, answering phones, and supporting the accounting team with other projects.
