The Role
Thornton Tomasetti is seeking a passionate team player to join our Sustainability & Resilience team as an intern to assist with building analytics projects, ranging from whole building energy modeling to embodied carbon lifecycle analysis services throughout the greater New York City area and beyond. This person will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of staff engineers and architects to provide assistance on a variety of tasks for active sustainability & resilience focused projects. This is a full-time internship for Summer 2026.
Responsibilities
While project work can vary greatly from day to day, typical tasks may include the following:
Students should be familiar and comfortable with Microsoft Suite programs (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and CAD programs (i.e. AutoCAD). Familiarity with any of the following programs is a plus, but is not required:
Compensation
The rate for this position generally is $25 - $35 hourly. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the New York Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful New York applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in New York or perform the position from New York. Similar positions located outside of New York will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by New York Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employee already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee’s pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.

Responsibilities

- Research and analysis of utility energy cost data
- Develop building geometry for assessment of daylight access and proposed energy use
- Energy code research
- Analysis and calculations to support backstop calculations and Passive House studies
- Review of architectural or structural systems, with possible assistance on mechanical, electrical, fire protection, or plumbing systems as they relate to sustainability and resilience strategies
- Review of existing project drawings and related documents
- PowerPoint presentation preparation
- Collaboration and coordination with other TT teams (i.e. Sustainability, Structures, Facades)
- Assistance in project management
- Opportunity to participate in TT summer events, outings, spot leagues
