What are the responsibilities and job description for the Police Officer position at Thornton NH Police Department?
The Thornton Police Department is currently accepting applications for a Full-Time Patrol Officer vacancy.
The current 2026 pay scale for patrol ranges from $28.81 (non-certified)-$31.03 depending on experience. An 18 month training agreement is required for non-certified officers.
Officers are required to live within 30 minutes of the town line.
Officers enjoy a relaxed but professional uniform standard which allows well-groomed facial hair, visible tattoos, and exterior vests.
Officers also receive a gym membership to a local gym that is open 24 hours.
Officers work a rotating 4 on 3 off schedule with rotating weekends off and the ability to swap shifts as needed.
The Town of Thornton offers a top-tier medical plan with 85% of the premium paid for by the town. Those who have insurance elsewhere are eligible to receive a yearly $5000.00 stipend.
State of New Hampshire Group 2, 25 year retirement.
The Town of Thornton also provides 12 paid holidays, PTO, 2 weeks of paid vacation after the 1st year of continuous employment (non-certified officers).
Applicants must be 21 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED. Applicants will be required to pass a physical agility test as set forth by NH Police Standard and Training, Oral Board interview, Chief’s Interview, Polygraph examination, drug screen, and rigorous background investigation.
