Job Summary :

The primary purpose of the Environmental Services Assistant job position is to perform the day-to-day activities of the housekeeping and/or laundry departments in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations governing the facility, and as may be directed by the Environmental Services Director, to assure that the facility is maintained in a safe and comfortable manner.

E S S E N T I A L J O B F U N C T I O N S :
• Ensure the provision of a clean environment for our residents and staff, providing high quality services and high standards of cleanliness, ensuring compliance with infection control procedures.
• Carry out all cleaning and/or laundry duties as directed the by Environmental Services Director according to required department policies and procedures.
• Dusts furniture, woodwork, equipment, and dust-mops floors. Polishes and cleans fixtures in rooms, bathrooms, and common areas.
• Operates environmental services equipment that may include washers, dryers, vacuums, floor cleaners, buffers, shampooers, etc.
• Wet-mops rooms, halls and other areas, shampoos rugs and furniture.
• Cleans vents, fan fixtures, top of window door frames and other high surfaces.
• Gathers and disposes of trash and waste materials using specified bags and containers, following waste disposal policies.
• Moves furniture and other heavy objects safely and as required for cleaning.
• Performs terminal cleaning procedures of resident rooms and prepares rooms for new admissions; follows isolation procedures in isolation rooms.
• Takes laundry and linen supply requests, makes supply packs for departments and puts linen stacks in carts for distribution.
• Delivers linen to departments according to pre-established par levels and schedules.
• Ensures that all cleaning and/or laundry equipment is correctly and safely used and kept in a safe condition. Reports any defects to the supervisors.
• Adheres to local, state, and federal environmental, health and safety regulations.
• Participates in facility in-services, including infection control and facility disaster planning efforts.
• Wear and/or use safety equipment and supplies (e.g., back brace, mechanical lifts, etc.) when lifting or moving heavy objects.
• Follows material safety data sheets (MSDS) for hazardous chemicals in the Environmental Services Department and participates in training to ensure that containers of hazardous chemicals in the department are properly labeled and stored.
• Maintain a sanitary environment, and that aseptic and isolation techniques are followed.
• Report work-related injuries and illnesses immediately to supervisor.
• Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and hazardous chemicals in accordance with the facility's policies and procedures governing accidents and incidents.
• Maintain confidentiality of all resident information.
• Ensure that the residents' personal and property rights policies are always followed.
• On-call duties as required.
• Overtime may be required.
• Essential Functions of this position must be performed in person.

E D U C A T I O N & Q U A L I F I C A T I O N S :
• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
• Experience in Environmental Services, in a skilled nursing, long term care, assisted living or hospital facility is preferred, but not required.
• Must be capable of performing the Essential Job Functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Physical & Sensory Requirements (With or Without Reasonable Accommodation) :

Routinely engages in medium to heavy work, lifting up to approximately 50 lbs. alone, with frequent lifting and/or carrying up to 25 lbs. Frequent walking/standing, reaching, bending, stooping, balancing, crouching and lifting or repositioning residents, grasping, pulling, fine hand coordination, ability to hear and respond to pages, ability to

understand and follow written and oral instructions and directions; ability to read and write; ability to communicate with residents and others; ability to distinguish smells, tastes, and temperatures; and ability to remain calm in emergency situations and when handling multiple tasks.
