Position: Transportation Mechanic
Terms of Employment:
52-week position
Monday - Friday
8 hours per day

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or an acceptable alternate-based high school equivalency.
- Valid Michigan driver’s license.
- Has completed the necessary bus driver’s courses to secure CDL card with B, P, or S endorsements (will train if necessary).
- Three years of experience as a mechanic, including diesel.
Job Requirements:
- Ability to complete State of Michigan required driving license tests.
- Ability to maintain a driving record that does not include points.
- Ability to complete physical demands tests and drug tests.
- Must pass criminal history records search and annual Department of Transportation drug screening and physical, including random drug screens as required.
- Ability to read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write simple correspondence and routine reports.
- Ability to communicate effectively with school staff.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Maintains knowledge and obeys all rules and regulations of driving/safety procedures required by the Michigan Department of Education, Safety and Traffic Unit, and TK Board of Education policies.
- Have a good work attitude and attendance pattern.
- Maintain a neat and clean appearance.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle, feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel or crouch, talk, hear, taste or smell.
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, such as bus parts and tools.
- Frequently required to push/pull items such as carts, hydraulic lift equipment, and portable machinery.
- Continuously requires the ability to use hand strength to grasp tools.
- Occasionally, the employee will lift/or move 80 pounds, such as large equipment and truck parts.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Performs such duties as maintaining, diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, rebuilding and making necessary adjustments on all district vehicles, including the bus fleet.
- Assures adequate maintenance and repair records are maintained for district vehicles and equipment.
- Recommends major equipment and vehicle replacements.
- Maintain a clean and well-organized garage, including vehicles as needed. Develop and maintain an inventory system.
- Performs all duties and procedures within the health and safety standards as per OSHA and/or MIOSHA.
- Prepares for annual State Police bus inspections.
- Maintain thorough knowledge and ability to repair components on all systems, including the ability to operate shop equipment and 2-way radios.
- Safely operates all types of buses owned by the district.
- Responds to emergency situations in a positive manner.
- Provides own tools.
- Performs other duties as required and directed by the Director of Transportation and/or Assistant Superintendent.
